Waiting List FNP UAB

I just received an email that I am on the waiting list for UAB's FNP program. My heart just sank! Has anyone else been on a waiting list and has ended up getting into a program? Anyone know how many students UAB accepts into the program each semester? I'll find out for sure Nov 13 if I'm in or not, but I'm just devastated right now!

I'm currenty in the program, I've had a friend apply that wasn't accepted, but her GPA wasn't "competitive" enough...It was suggested to her that she apply to another program- Adult NP, Women's Health, etc...

Do you live in Alabama? Samford has an online program- more on campus time than UAB though...

GOOD LUCK!!!!!

My GPA is 3.5, perhaps that isn't competitive enough since I didn't submit a GRE? When I called the college and inquired about the program, the staff member that was the head of the FNP program(can't recall her name) said I was a "shoe-in" for the program; i.e. that I wouldn't have a problem getting in. I live in Mississippi, have over 8 years of critical care experience, graduated from The U of Iowa, and have my TNCC and CCRN. I definitely think it's either my GPA or not taking my GRE. Hopefully they will explain if they do ultimately deny my admission. The wait continues....

They may just be trying to sort things out still...My friends GPA was terrible...2.something. Mine was 3.8 and at the time I applied, the GRE was required and I made a 1080, I have my CCRN also. I know several people that haven't taken the GRE, but were accepted...And they couldn't be more stand out than you are...???

If you're not accepted this semester, have you thought about entering as a non-degree student? You can get up to 12 hrs as a non-degree, it's just basic stuff Adv. Patho, Pharm, and Roles/Issues. Each semester you could apply, but still be going to school. As a non-degree you're not expected to go by a certain "schedule" of classes.

You don't want to go to Miss Univ for Women? It's not an online program I guess...

I didn't think about the non-degree option; I'll definitely have to check that out. I did extensive research on schools in my area, and UAB definitely had the best/most reputable program. Thanks for the info. Do you think that I'm more than likely "out" since I'm on the waiting list? I don't even know what ranking I'm in on the waiting list...so not even sure how many people would have to rescind their admissions before I get in.

No...I wouldn't say your out. It could be that they're just making sure they have enough faculty before admitting the waiting list folks. I think it sounds like you have a GREAT chance! And some people may have applied to 2 schools and will decline UAB admission...You just never know...

gentle tos reminder:

while it is important to be able to network, everyone should be mindful of the following:

  1. it is a small world - when we narrow it down to a state and throw in some personal info, there is actually a pretty good chance someone may recognize you if you are not careful. your privacy is paramount to us.
  2. while allnurses.com is a wonderful place to vent (without excess personally identifiable details) it is not the place to express why ("x" specific person, place or program) is terrible. gripe away, but since we cannot permit allegations to be made about named entities, your care in not naming them is very much appreciated.
  3. please do not give out personal information about others. do not name names where anyone could identify the person in any facility including your nursing programs.

I am applying for Fall 2011 at UAB for FNP. I am thinking of taking classes this summer as a non-degree graduate student to get ahead. Has anyone else done this? Any advice on what classes to take ahead of time or any advice at all on UAB's program would be VERY appreciated!! Thanks
