Waiting List Closed??

U.S.A. Rhode Island

Published

I had heard the other day that CCRI has "closed" it's waiting list to new people. I had heard the same about Rhode Island College. From what I've read, there seem to be quite a few students from both Schools of Nursing. Any info that can be offered, I would appreciate.

Thanks in advance,

CCRI's waitlist has been closed to any further applicants since 2006. They are implementing a performance based (GPA) application process. The goal is to keep accepting students who are still waitlisted, and accept a certain percentage of performance based applicants each year. This way, they can get all of the waitlisted students through the program, and eventually be 100% performance based (no more waiting list, just apply and either be accepted or rejected). They are doing away with the first come first served process, and trying to make acceptance fully based on students grades.

You can still apply to the program if you have taken all of the required prerequisites, and have the required grades and GPA that meet the acceptance guidelines. The program is competitive because of the overwhelming amount of applicants. There are currently somewhere around 900 students still on the waitlist, along with students applying every year in the performance based applications.

Ok. So, for RIC....I can be of more help because I am in the nursing program there. RIC does not and has never had a waiting list. To apply to the program, you need a minimum 2.7 GPA and you also need to complete all of the required prerequisites. You apply....and either are accepted or not. RIC accepts applications twice per year (you need to be a student at RIC and a declared nursing major); 90 students in the fall and about 60 in the spring. We were told by nursing faculty that they had a record number of applicants this year: over 600.

I am enjoying the program so far, and I am definitely learning alot.

Hope this helps.

I am a Rhode Island College student and I'm in the program right now. As far as I know the RIC Nursing program isn't closed to new admissions, in fact RIC just became one of ten schools in the country to receive special funding from the VA to be in a program called "VA Academy". Basically, its where the VA donates money to the schools nursing program to bring in more faculty and services to allow the program to accept even more students over the next four years. I will say that in order to get into RIC's program you are going to have to take at least one course at RIC (and they would prefer it be a science based course) this is to show that you can handle the course load of a RIC class. As far as CCRI goes I have no clue about their program. I know when I went to CCRI their program needed a huge overhaul IMHO but I know they have changed it around a bit to allow students with better grades to move to the front of the wait list which sounds better then their old system of first come, first serve. If you have any more questions about RIC just be sure to ask me.
