Waiting on first contract = scary!

So my sister and I are planning to travel together come January. We want to go south and work nights. One company is really on the ball...in constant contact trying to get us an assignment...just not where we want (Someone called us about Minot, ND Eeww). We're getting to this limbo stage that is scary!!! We need to give 2 weeks notice at our current employment, but don't know when to do it because we don't know when we'll be leaving. I really don't want to give my notice without having something lined up. We figure we'll give it another couple weeks to see if anything shows up where we want to go (Hoping for Texas, Arizona or anywhere around there). Basically anything south of Missouri that's night shiftwe'll be happy with.

You may have to sign up with several agencies if you are not already. Find out what agencies staff in the areas you guys are considering. I definitely would not put in my 2 week notice until you've found a prospective assignment, have the agency submit your file to the employer, make it through the interview process, negotiate the contract and sign it. Good luck.

We are signed up with several agencies already. I've been trying to find agencies based in Texas or that staff a lot in Texas but having no luck yet.

Its probably going to get even tougher to find a job after Jan. I know TONS of people that take off Nov-Dec, then start back up again Jan.1. Most of these people have there choice of assignments and try to stay in the warmer climates during the winter/spring.

I guess what Im saying is--Dont be too picky! Its hard enough to find 1 job these days let alone 2 (especially at the same place). Do you guys have the same skill set/experience? Whats wrong with Minot ND? Too cold? Thats probably why theyve got the openings.. Your first assignment is always the toughest!

Yea that's what I hear. That's why the agency is trying to get us out before January. We basically are both med surg but I have Tele experience too . We're going to give it this week to see if anything pops up. If not we're going to take whatever....ugh....even Minot, ND.

Stay with it and things will happen. Murphy's Law says as soon as you accept Minot, ND all the jobs that you really wanted will start calling. You should ask your recruiter about the Indian Reservations. I know AZ and MT have a bunch of MedSurg & Clinic contracts right now. They are out in the middle of nowhere but they are pretty solid when it comes to getting your hours.

have you looked at http://www.delphiforums.com ? go to the forum called 'travel nurses and specialists.

Just a couple tips: RESEARCH your travel agency VERY well before signing on with them. Also, it's very important to thoroughly research the housing/area they place you in (if you choose their housing) and also the hospital at which you will be assigned.
