Waiting for an acceptance letter from Pioneer Pacific College

U.S.A. Oregon

Published

I just turned in my essay, letters of recomendation, etc. I will not know if I am in or not until July 18. I am really excited because other programs near Eugene are so competive. I have been trying to get in for 3 years now an this year I applied with a 3.8 GPA.

Is anyone else waiting for a acceptance letter my the Eugene/Springfield PPC?

Just this afternoon I found out that I got into Umpqua Community College. It was a total shock to me. I didn't even realize that I was on the wait list....so needless to say PPC is off of the list for me, I AM GOING TO UMPQUA!

Way to go tifftazia! Are you nearby Umpqua?

I live in Eugene actually, so it will be a commute, but worth it!

How far is it from Eugene to Roseburg? I am just wondering how far you are willing to drive for curiosity's sake?

I live just south of Portland and I am considering 30 miles too far to drive, which leaves just two schools to apply to. Granted, I'd probably drive that far, but my dh is against it.

I will actually be driving an hour one-way. I know it seems pretty crazy, but I sure people have went through worse to get what they want. Of course I could relocate if I wanted to, but for the next term I will just give it a try doing the drive and if I can't hack it at some point I will relocate.

I just don't want to give up my job at the really awsome hospital that I work at here. It is the best place that I have ever, ever worked and I don't want to give up the foot that I have in the door the last 2 years.

And 30 miles is not too far to travel. Living in the Metro area, you should easily have access to several schools and if I were you I would apply to every stinking one of them. The competition is stiff and if you want you will have to fight for your spot at a CC. This was my 3rd time applying to a CC and my grades were really good.

Sadly, my grades are just good, not really good. I am hoping to retake Micro and A&P 3 and rectify that situation over the course of the next term or so. But I am not looking forward to it! :-D

I don't think it is crazy at all. It depends on the situation completely. I know people in Northern California who did their LPN-RN bridge with an 80 mile each direction commute. For me in the metro area, the 30 mile drive would be 1+ hrs each direction. I am just hesitant to spend that much time away from my family. We own our house and don't have an option to relocate right now either =/ But that is the way of things :)

I think you should look into Pioneer Pacific if you have C's or better in your A&P's and micro. The commute would be freeway and if you have afternoons you would only deal with evening traffic. Once your done with that you could look into the Lower Columbia College LPN to RN online course where you only have to actually be at the college in Longview at the end of the program when you have to do your clinincals. That is my plan my grades in A&P are all B's which arent good enough to get into Lane CC which is the community college here in Eugene. Roseburg might be an option, but it scares me to drive that far because I am actually north of Eugene in Junction City/Monroe area. Good luck with your endeavors.

Has anyone heard on acceptance? I still have my fingers crossed for you who haven't heard from anywhere yet, even though I've managed to hijack the thread

My Grades in 1-B, 2-B and 3-C and Micro was a C, but I plan on making it an A when I retake this fall (it expired this spring). When I was taking my prerequisites four years ago, it didn't really occur to me that I needed a 4.0.

I only live about 5 miles from the PPC in Wilsonville, so it has always been an option. I almost dropped out of my MA program to go to PPC. I did see that Lower Columbia program, and I was seriously considering it. My kid would likely be in school by the time it came to fruit, as she's 2 1/2 now. Its a very long way for me to drive to Lower Columbia though, as I am in Canby (between oregon city and woodburn on 99).Likely what would happen at that point would be selling the house and moving to Vancouver like we've been discussing for two years :chuckle
