Volunteering

Summer is almost here and I want to use the time I have besides studying for science courses to volunteer and bulk up my resume for nursing school. What kind of areas or fields should I look into volunteering for that would look good on a resume?

Instead of finding something that will 'look good on your resume'- why don't you look for somewhere you are NEEDED? Because honestly- taking up orientation time and then doing your bare minimum hours and never darkening the door once you have what YOU want is patently unfair. It's self-serving. Finding a REAL need in your community- no matter if it bulks up your resume or not- and filling that need shows more about you as a person rather than just checking off the 'volunteer' box. And I say that from the point of view from someone who makes admission decisions for nursing school.

Hmmm, not much response from the OP to your sobering post, MMJ. Disheartening, but perhaps other would-be nurses will take your point. I do hope so.

While I do agree with the idea that your volunteering should be community service first and foremost, not all volunteering is practical for careers in healthcare. I would suggest looking into social service options in your area along with volunteering at a hospital. Big hospitals are always short on volunteers and rely on their help, especially at emergency departments.
