contact volunteer services at UM hospital (or any hospital). I volunteer 3 hours a week in the Post Op care unit, get lots of direct patient care experience

I volunteered at the Hope Medical Clinic in Ypsilanti. It's a non-profit clinic for people without insurance. Great for hands on! They always need volunteers. They have stuff for one-timers or people like me who volunteer a couple times a week for a couple years. Great experience!

UM-Flint? Does that mean you are located closer to Flint or Ann Arbor? If you're in Flint, I think UM-Flint works a lot with Hurley. I personally would contact the nursing program at UM-Flint and ask if they have a suggestion if they know what hospitals accept college student volunteers. Or you could start at the Hurley website here http://www.hurleyfoundation.org/?id=700&sid=4
