Volunteer/Training Opportunities in Medical Assisting

Published

Hi,

My CNA/GNA training at my local community college primarily focused on geriatric care. My practicum was at a nursing home. The CNA part of the class consisted of textbook learning only, no practicum. After interviewing with Patient First, I learned they accept CNA's, although the job description is listed as "Medical Assistant". Patient First will actually train newly hired CNA's about their computer programs, front desk operations, x-rays, lab procedures, autoclaves, EKG's etc. Unfortunately, I have not recieved a call-back after the interview:(

My question...are there any hospitals/clinics that may offer volunteer work in return for free training in actual CNA/Medical Assistant duties? Is there anywhere in the tri-state area that may offer this type of an opportunity. I think it would really build up my resume and make me more marketable in a acute care environment. Don't get me wrong...I do enjoy being a GNA also...just wanna learn more skills.
