Volunteer State Community College

Hello, anyone here in the VSCC nursing program? I am interested in it and was wondering what the wait is to get in? I will basically have all of my pre-reqs and just need nursing classes. I will be taking chemistry this semester and then apply.

Please let me know if anyone has any info on VSCC.

Thanks.

I had checked into them when I was applying for nursing programs. Basically (unless it's changed) they are actually a SITE for the TSU nursing program. And as you probably saw, you MUST have either high school or college chem to apply (I actually took chem my very first semester of college because I really planned to apply there) I do not believe they have a waiting list program. they do a points program. They give you x points for various things and the students with the most points get in. They may be the school that gives you like 1/4 pt for being on a wait...can't remember.

SOME schools put you on a wait list as long as you meet minimum criteria - then they go down the list sending out invitations...VSCC is NOT one of those schools.

HTH..... I honestly wasn't very impressed with the lady who runs the program - she was rather rude. Where are you in relation to Nashville? I have heard GREAT things about MTSU but of course it's a BSN program.

Thanks for the reply. I am located in Hendersonville so Gallatin is very convenient. I know it is outsourced through TSU. I wonder if I don't get in a spot at VSCC would they still have spots at TSU. I don't mind driving downtown. Murfreesboro is quite the drive from Hendersonville. I already have a BA in Bus. Mgt. and just really don't want to pursue another Bachelors 'at this time.' My littlest one is three and I am hoping to get all my school done so I can start working when he starts school.

I just gradurated from the VSCC program. You do have to apply to TSU and specify the VSCC program. Students are accepted based on GPA. The Vol State campus takes 40 students each year. You will have to occasionally go to TSU but my class rarely went. I will tell you they are having staffing issues and the two main VSCC teachers are no longer there. So, the incoming classes may have to spend more time on the main campus. All in all, it was not a bad program. My last year was pretty hectic due to teacher shortages. I don't know if you can switch b/n the two campus' but Gallatin sounds like it's pretty close to you. Good Luck!

For those of you in the Vol State program, I will only lack two more general education classes by the time I start the Nursing Program (if I get accepted) which are Microbiology and Development Psych. Can I choose to put those last two classes off after the four semesters of nursing and then take those two the next semester? or do I have to have EVERYTHING done at the end of the two years? Unless I think I can handled additional classes, I would prefer to take them w/o nursing classes.

TIA
