volunteer opportunities in Oregon?

Any advice on finding volunteer opportunities that would qualify for RN work hours.

I live in Oregon where a minimum number of work hours is required to keep RN license current?

Just curious......don't you want to work for pay? Why not, if you don't mind my asking?

If I were you, I'd volunteer some hours at a local homeless shelter or outreach clinic that provides medical care, or work with seniors, or even do immunization clinics at your health department. Or, if you're involved with a church, you could join or organize a parish nurse ministry.......the opportunities are endless.

Good luck to you.

The best thing to do would be to call the BON--they would know exactly what you would need to do to keep that license active...what about a prn job? I haven't heard anything about voulnteer activities. You could look into the Voluenteer Nurse Disaster team...I am on the registry for that...hopefully we won't need it though...

It was forward thinking of the Oregon Board of Nursing to allow volunteer nursing as practice hours. There are multiple opportunities, depending on your location. The Portland area quick resource would be thru the Hands On Portland website (written up in 4/19 Oregonian article in the business section) The American Red Cross national website allows you to put your zip code in to determine what Chapter you live in, & then has links to their volunteer activities. I personally have been a disaster nurse for Red Cross for over 20 years & find it the most rewarding nursing I have ever done. The options vary from local time limited projects, to responding to health needs at single family fires in your community to responding nationally (after free training) to large scale disasters. I am new to this site, so do not know about the agreement not to "recruit" from the site, so am trying not to violate that.
