volplex, question

Just a quick question about Volplex aka Gelofusin, a plasma expander.

I had thought that this was to go through a filtered blood giving set, however our iv link nurses says we should use a normal gravity set.

Does anyone have any information or links on this.

Thanks

I checked with pharmacy and are infusion nurses, and they all say you don't need to use one. It was really puzzling me as to where i had got the idea that it had to go through a blood giving set from.

Until i spoke to a friend in CICU and they do it as best practice, as if they are hanging volplex blood is usually hung next. I must have picked up the habit when I was a student in SSICU!

Thanks for the link
