hello,
I live in New York and I am about to get my ADN, I have heard that the Visiting Nurse Service of New York offers one year externship for new grads, do any of you have any information on that? if any of you are in the program right now can you tell me how it works? how many hours a day do you work? what kind of care do you provide? how is the paperwork? does the training include any class time? I would appreciate any information you can provide, thanks a lot!

Please don't quote me but my understanding was that you needed to have your bachelors degree. Check out their website for actual information

yes, you are right, just until recently they only offered an externship for BSN nurses, but now they also offer one for ADN nurses, I know that for a fact because a representative from VNS came by my school and told us about it, I am guessing that it probably works the same as the BSN program, the only difference is that they pay slightly less for it, so if any of you are in either program (BSN or ADN externship) please let me know your opinion of the program, thanks a lot!

Our school went to the VNS headquarters in Queens in lieu of a clinical day at the hospital, but I can't remember many details about what was said there (I know, I'm no help).
I do know that there is a member who posts in the New York forum who is going through the program now. Maybe posting this question over there will get you the answers you are looking for.
