I am an American educated, NCLEX passed, gainfully employed RN who had to apply for a Visascreen from CGFNS and I was just wondering if there was anyone else here who is waiting for their's or better yet someone who has received a Visascreen.

Errrrrr - what's a visascreen?

Never heard of it. What is it???

Also, what is CGFNS?

I belive this post is regarding Canadian RN's who wish to apply for their green card or a state licence that requires the above. Just another way to make a buck as far as I can see. I'm Canadian and have friends who, although educated in the US, need a piece of paper that tells them they have met the requirements to practice in the US and on top of that are able to speak english! How's that for red tape??!!!

I am a Canadian RN working in the U.S. on a T.N. card. I wrote my NCLEX in '92 and never had to go through the CGSNF hassle. At one point immigration would not renew our T.N. cards until all RN obtained the CGFNS certificate. If you had aready obtain and Passed the NCLEX you were to obtain a Visa Screen. this was to exempt you from writing a CGFNS exam. BUT..immigration would not accept that! Since then, immigration has become a little more realistic. Presently in order to obtain a U.S. license you must first obtain a CGFNS then write the NCLEX. Anyone who aready has their NLCEX prior to this new immigration law, has been granfathered in. A visa screen has not been a requirement for me to obtain my T.N.
