Hello everyone.
I'm foreign educated nurse RN from the Czech Republic. I passed NCLEX -RN two weeks ago. I know that now I have to contact hospitals or recruiting agency to get a job.I wish to work in NYC. I would like to safe time so I was thinking if I'll apply already for a Visa screen, but I'm not sure what kind of visa I really need H1B or H1C? I don't want to apply for a greencard.
Should I first contact hospital or agency and then visascreen?
I appreciate your help.
Thank you, Vlasta

H1C has not existed for nearly a decade. Very few hospitals sponsor H1B visa as its costly and many nurses don't qualify. You won't save time by applying for a VSC without a job offer or visa petition. NYC is extremely competitive hundreds of applicants for a single job, very little incentive for an employer to sponsor a visa
What do you recommend, should I stay home? :)
Not exactly, many NY native nurses (new & experienced) have difficulty securing employment in NYC hospitals. Don't apply for a visa screen until you have a job offer. They already have most of your documents since you used cgfns for your CVS for NY.
Agencies can't create visas where none exist.
Do you have a BSN? I know you have specialty experience.
Look outside the major metropolitan area of NYC. Previous recommended upstate NY--Albany, Syracuse, Buffalo. You are more likely to find an employer further from NYC. I believe you said you have 5+ years CVICU experience, there are major medical centers that may be interested in you & your experience.
Most "glamorized" areas like NYC, Chicago, Philadelphia, LA, San Diego, Boston, San Francisco are highly impacted and have many applicants for few job openings plus a higher cost of living.
You can't apply for an H1C as it expired long ago
You can't apply for an H1B as an employer must apply on your behalf as a sponsor is mandatory.
Thank you for your help.
