visa screen nclex documentation

Can you help me? I do not know what document ICHP needs. It is for the visa screen requirement. I received a letter stating I need to submit "documentation of successful completion of either: CGFNS or NCLEX". But since I did not take CGFNS, and just now I learned I passed the California NCLEX-RN, I want to update ICHP for my visa screen. What is that document that I need to send to ICHP? Is there a form available from the CA-BRN website so I can request for that document? Please help me. Thank you!

Always, always send any documentation to CGFNS by courier service.

This way you have documentation every step of the way.

Good luck............ :balloons:

dear Sophiesylvie,

ICHP will not accept documentation that does not come directly from the California BRN. Please try to call or write the California BRN to request them to send said documentation to ICHP. I believe they charge a fee for this service. This will then satisfy two requirements for the visa screen, namely "license verification from state" as well as "passed CP exam" . I hope I was able to help.

California will not issue a license verification if the nurse doesn't have a SSN#, since they will not actually be issuing the license until then. That is the biggest problem with initial licensure in California for foreign nurses.

Dear Suzanne and Sophiesylvie,

I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. I meant that you can request California BRN to send ICHP verification of your having passed the NCLEX-RN examination and not license verification. You can request that by phone or by mail. They will require you to send a copy of the letter to then (BRN) as well as your candidate reference number and a small fee for mailing expenses . This should take less than a month.

Suzanne, you have been so helpful to everyone on the site. I take my hat off to you. The whole immigration process is so convoluted and difficult to understand for foreign nurses and it's good that you are around to guide us. More power to you

Hi gaslinq! Thanks for the info. Did you also go through the same situation I am in now? Anyway, I looked up on the CA-BRN website and found out they had updated the website (good thing!!!) and this link http://www.rn.ca.gov/fees/fees.htm indicated a $60 fee for ICHP Visa Screen.. so you're right. Now I'll just have to re-send the request letter with the payment. I hope this will finally put an end to my dilemma (thanks to your and suzanne's help). :)

I have follow up questions though (either you or suzanne can answer this):

1. Having passed the NCLEX in California (without SSN), do I fall under the "temporary license" category?

2. Under the CA-BRN miscellaneous fees, I wonder what's the difference between "ICHP Visa Screen (Verification)" and "Verification of CA Licensure." Is the latter only used for Endorsement of license to other state?

Will appreciate your input. Thanks in advance:)

As far as I know, the temporary license is issued when your application to take the NCLEX exam is approved by the Cal. BRN. Once you pass the exam, the temporary license (interim permit) expires. So, since you have already passed the exam, your interim permit (if you applied for one) is no longer valid.

Regarding licensure verification, I believe Suzanne answered the question when she said that Cal. BRN cannot send licensure verification if you are not licensed. You should choose the ICHP verification. That will satisfy the ICHP requirement for "licensure verification from state board" as well as "passed CP/ NCLEX exam")

I hope I was able to clear things up.

If you want to know more, just post your email address and I'll send you a PM.

You do not fall under the temporary license category. That is for nurses who have not taken NCLEX yet, but graduated from a US school, etc. You do not need to pay the extra fee.
