Any other applicants out there? Does anyone know how many applications are submitted each year for the DNAP program? Good luck everyone!!

Did anybody get an email today?

I got my email today! My interview is May 2nd.

They send the emails to the your email you applied with correct? Do they keep sending emails the rest of the week?

I will see you there Jamiemoney88! Got mine as well!

Shanimal how was the interview? I know you can't disclose much of anything but anything shared would be greatly appreciated! Is there a test or writing portion? Last I heard it was not as clinical as some. Is it one on one or panel interview? Is there a practical portion (ACLS sim)?

Unless a lot has changed in the last year, the interview questions are way more personal than clinical in focus. To be honest, I don't think posting the specific questions I was asked would be helpful even if I could remember them since they're based on your own experiences, along with the expected "tell me about yourself," "why anesthesia," "why VCU," etc. The faculty are genuinely trying to get to know you, not trying to intimidate you. I recall a small written test--very short, CCRN-type questions to help validate your skills, but if you have your CCRN it's really nothing to stress about IMO. No ACLS/megacode for us. That would just be mean.

How do people afford the tuition at 135k + for the program? Just to live frugally once graduated and pay it off asap?

How did you calculate $135K+ for tuition costs? Even if one paid out-of-state tuition and fees for all 9 semesters of the program, that would total out to around $120K. Keep in mind though that if you're classified as an out-of-state student at the beginning of the program, you're eligible for in-state rates once you've lived in Virginia for 1 year. So that should make your total tuition/fees closer to $90K for the entire program. If, like me, you started off as an in-state student, total tuition/fees is more like $72K. Not bad at all, IMO.

To answer the other part of your question, students use federal graduate loans (plus whatever they've saved, if anything) to cover tuition/living costs. Taking out those kind of loans can still be intimidating, but rather than continuing to work as an RN and save whatever little I could, the math worked out in favor of incurring some debt in order go to school now, then to live frugally for a couple years and pay it all off. VCU also has a number of scholarships available to anesthesia students, although to be eligible you have to already be in good standing in the program, so that usually means having one or two semesters done already. Still, an easy $1-5K can go a long way when you're a frugal grad student (especially if you're based at the Richmond, Roanoke, or Abingdon campuses--maybe not so much at the Northern Virginia one, LOL). Keep in mind too that VCU transitioned to a hybrid program format a couple years ago. That means that the easier core courses are front-loaded, allowing students to continue working full-time for 2 semesters wherever they currently live and complete their coursework online. That really helps to offset costs too.

Hello all, I applied as well but have not heard anything yet. Just curious what campuses did you put down and what email address did your interview come from?

I applied to the Abingdon campus and got my notification the other day. My interview is May 3rd. Any other Abingdon applicants out there?

I just recently received my email to interview yesterday and I interview on May 3. I also applied to the Abingdon campus.

Anyone applied and not hear anything from them yet? I dont know if they are sending another batch of interviews.

My friend with the same almost the same stats as me got an interview offer late this week. We're both applying to Roanoke but I put down RVA and Ab too. I'm gonna call Monday just to check. I saw on the website it says interviews will go out in April.
