Who else will be starting at VCU for August 08? :monkeydance:

Hi EMRNCRNA,

I'll be with you at VCU in August 2008! I'll be moving across the country from Utah and it will be hard to relocate, especially since I'll be moving with my young family (one husband, and four kids ages 6 and under).

Do you live in VA now?

Jen

HI! Wow, moving cross country with 4 kids? I'm impressed! Actually I am moving up there from Atlanta so I will also be new to the area though I have friends up there. I can't wait to start school and meet everyone, there were some great people in my interview group I hope to see again. Only 9 months away...I'm sure its going to fly :studyowl:

How did it go?

Hi Jen and Em,

I'll see you both this August with my two kids, husband, and my Mom. I'm also moving up from Atlanta. I'd be interested to know where you and other people going to VCU are looking for family housing. We'd like to rent a place where our children can have room to play outside (and we can have a two-car garage--spoiled on our GA winters!).

Also, are you guys taking any courses to prep for Physiology and Medicinal Chemistry?

Hey guys... I didn't make the cut, they put me on the waiting list or alternate list or whatever they call it. They said they'd call me in case some applicants reject their acceptance slot, which I highly doubt. it took me 48 hours to get over it, but im ok. I know I placed my best foot forward on this, considering too that I came all the way from the Philippines just for this. It was really a hard and long journey for me, figuratively and literally. But I have plans already. I'm taking up some graduate physiology classes next year and the online chem prep course. I may also have to re-take the GRE cuz i really messed up on the english part, but scored really high on the math. I may also want to take the CSC exam, I already have my CCRN-CMC. hope is not lost, all in the lord's good time. hope to meet you guys soon! wish me luck and congratulations to you all.

Sirjazz, I'm sorry that you didn't make it in. I sent you a PM and I wish you the best in the future. Don't give up. Keep working hard and things will work out. You have a good attitude and that is exactly what you need.

Hi Adonai,

I am so happy that you made it! We should definately keep in touch regarding family housing. I did talk to one guy who is a current student who moved from accross the country with his family. He bought a modest house in Henrico County and said that he loves it there. I checked out Craigslist.com under rentals and I found some 3 bedroom houses for rent between $1100- 1300. There are some houses that are cheaper, but I am a little worried about the neighborhoods.

Let me know if you find anything out.

Jennifer

Adonai,

I signed up for the medicinal chemistry course last week. I'm still waiting for my password before I can get started. They told me that it will take a couple of weeks to get it. I'll let you know how it goes. If the chem class goes well, I'll probably sign up for the physiology class later. If I don't like the setup, I'll end up taking a physiology class at my local college.

Jen

Hi Jen,

I have also been combing craigslist for some housing options and have also come across a google search engine that checks across multiple housing search sites. I found some great looking stuff in Glen Allen, VA in addition to Chesterfield and Mechanicsville (two areas recommended to me by a current VCU student with children). The Glen Allen area is Northeast of downtown Richmond and seems like it might be a little cheaper than Chesterfield, but still within 15 miles of campus.

We're looking for a 3 bedroom with an office or a 4 bedroom. My husband works from home and will need a private work area. Some yard space for the kids to play would be nice too.

I'm also PM'ing you my personal email address so we can keep each other posted on the housing search.

Ideally we'd like to sell before we move, so I'm working fast to get our home in showroom shape so we can get it on the market.

Thanks for the info!

Adonai

I have a friend already in the program at VCU. The downtown Richmond neighborhoods can get sketchy, you need to check them out in person. But I was also told that the suburbs of Richmond are nice. Southside is probably the most questionable area. I look forward to meeting you guys! As far as the medicial chem class, is it a self paced class, meaning, does it start whenever you sign up and finish when you are done or is there a set time line?
