Virginia College

i was just curious if anyone has signed up for this program this for 2010? if so i would like to know how your experience had been so far and if you did your pre req there. i am thinking about signing up this january to do my pre reqs there and then entering their nursing program. i've only seen one person on this site who had actually attended there.

any info would be helpful!! thanks.

@ redstepchild, I went to Virginia College last month to talk to them about the nursing program also. They gave me a list of all the programs and the cost of their classes per quarter. They said the nursing classes would be $5,254 per quarter. If you wanted to take 12 hours or less it would still be $5,254 as well for 13-16 hours and 8 hours or less. The woman in the financial aid office told me the program in all would be around $42,000

YIKES! I hope you are getting a BSN for that price! That is about $500 more than what I pay a semester at UA. Their program better be worth it!

redstepchild,

i was at vc, i took my teas and passed, the whole nine yards and decided not to stay.. it wasnt worth the money. plus i've heard there is still some flaws. so i'm going to apply somewhere else. good luck in whatever you decide. it is a good school though, but i plan on furthering my education

the hourse are from 530-10 i believe

Well at least I know what the regular rate is for the classes.. the lady I spoke to said the program director will cut the cost if all need are the nursing classes.. as long as the classes I took are equivilant... and she said the typical Jeff state classes are.. english, science, and the math 100 classes as well as the speech ones. I was pretty firm that I'm not going to take these again nor am I going to pay for these again. I have to get an official transcript and bring it with me... And all this I could be mailing to them.. let them get back to me with a price. I'm just going to have to go down there and if they tell me the $5000 range per quarter... forget it. So when I find out.. I will be sure and reply to this thread here.

redstepchild,

i can already tell you it's over 5k. i just transferred from there. it's that no matter how many classes you take. the total program is in the 50k range. includes everything. even first rn exam. you will only have to pay per quarter that you take. program in 27 months long. of course it would be shorter for you. only classes needed are english, college algebra, a&p 1 and 2. micro. nutrition. development and growth. there could be a few more.

Yea it is about $5000 per quarter no matter how many classes you take.

So I enrolled.. I don't start until later in June so I can back down if need be.

I came pretty prepared so when I came in I had all my documents in order.. you HAVE to come in twice.. my second visit was just to review my stuff cause I brought my tax returns, SAR, official transcripts/ diploma, and I peeled through the tests.. I think I missed 2 on the math test.. aced the other ones. my teas V was a nice 95 (I mistakenly thought it was 90), No points, etc.

I met with the clinical coordinator so I could get a feel of how she schedules clinicals for people who work M-F during the days.

I had all the classes but not HEALTH.. so I need to take that but they are letting me take it with a quarter that has nursing classes..

Do your prereqs at Jeff state, fyi-- they all transfer.

Congrats! I spoke with an admissions rep in Montgomery and she gave me some of the details over the phone (costs, times of classes, etc)....very nice lady.

Heading down to the campus on Monday to check out everything. I too don't want to wait 2+ years to get into a program.

Did you take any classes at the community college?

Did you take any classes at the community college?

I'm taking my reminder pre-reqs this summer at community college and transferring the rest from a 4-year university.

well once you get really into the concept that this is where you are going.. and you've pretty much sold them that you are going there..

ONCE I was enrolled, I discussed with the Head of the department and admissions mngr that I wanted to take the quarters I had just 1 class to take (some "diversity" class) and bump it to the next quarter because I didn't want to pay 5000 for one class.

Yes, this WILL put me with a different graduating class (earlier) and in the end, cost less..

SO get a copy of the schedule.. and if you see a quarter or 2 where you have just ONCE class, be persistent about that being a stumbling block...

I was told initially it couldn't be done BUT right before I left after COMPLETING all the admissions requirements and tests.. I went back and I said Hey... I'm all registered and stuff but I just can't get pass taking one class that quarter and paying 5000 for it.. What can we do about this?

They don't WANT to mess up the "rotation" so to speak.. but right now they don't have waiting list issues so they are more flexible.

If you have REALLY REALLY fantastic test scores (I was a 95 on my Teas V and I aced all the VC tests).. well I'm the guaranteed NCLEX passer in their mind..
