Versent Residency requirements

Published

I have been looking for a GN position since September 2011 in the Dallas area. I have had no luck. I graduated from my ADN 12/2011 and my RN-BSN 12/2012. I have been told that the versent program is for graduates out of school less than a year, but I have seen where it also says less than 6 months experience.

A little background - I have been a Respiratory Therapist for 26 years. I have a BS in Health Services Administration. I am ACLS, PALS, TNCC, NRP and STABLE certified. I graduated with my ADN 12/11 and my RN-BSN 12/12 (Summa Cum Laude -3.9 GPA). Passed NCLEX 1st try in 1/12.

Can anyone clarify. I need some solid evidence to support the one year. Also is it 1 year from ADN or can it be RN-BSN?

I am desperate. PLEASE HELP.

Thanks

I've seen new grads go through the versent program, but back in LA.... Why are you limiting yourself to this program though?? There are very good programs at Children's, Downtown Baylor, Medical City, and UT Southwestern to name just a few. Sounds like you may need to branch out....

If it makes you feel any better, I had to apply twice in order to get into a residency program. I found a random clinic to work at as an RN until I could get the residency position. Is there an open house that you can go to?? I didn't have any connections whatsoever, and went to the open house for the residency, passed out my resume, and that's how I got my foot in the door for an interview. Have you been asked to interview? How many different hospitals have you applied to? Are you only applying in Dallas, or would you be open to Austin or other areas of Texas?

Ugh the versant residency....

I have interviewed all over the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. I am asking about Versant because I was told I was no longer eligible because I have been out of school too long. I have branched out and have applied all over Texas, Georgia, and Florida. I do not know why I am having such a hard time getting hired. I am waiting for Children's to open up this round.

Well, if you are interested in applying to Austin, TX. The Versant Residency at Seton Family of hospitals states they hire RNs with less than 1 year of full time RN experience (less than 2080 hours) by start date.

Accepted:

  • Texas RN license
  • Temporary Texas license
  • Compact RN license

Eligibility Requirements There is the website. They have a ton of hospitals all over the Austin area, so that might help for you to find a position somewhere. Good luck! The open house was already on 03/07/2013, but they have a residency every 4 to 6 months if it's too late for this one.

RN_BSN09,

Thanks. I applied to multiple positions.

Do you think there could be age discrimination? Given your background, I am thinking you and I may be around the same age, and I must say that over the past couple of years, I have had a few instances where I just had a bad vibe about a situation. I'm not job hunting, but I work for a large organization and there are politics involved in everything we do, from who participates on which interview panel to who gets their first choice of interns. I don't see to have most favored status any more, and I definitely used to on the A team. My performance reviews are still positive and there haven't been any disciplinary or interpersonal issues to explain the changes. There are certainly lots of young new grads that are experiencing the same situation as you, though, so I'm not saying this is what's going on. Just curious if you think it's a factor.

Mercyteapot - I have thought about that and pay. They all probably can figure out how much I make now. Also I think my extensive backgroung plays a part. I wish I could prove some type of discrimination. In the meantime, I keep applying to everything GN and RN I.
