Nurses General Nursing

Silly post but just feel like getting out how I'm feeling.

I go on a much needed vacation from work in less than 24 hours. One more shift left.

Work is kicking my butt. I've been in Charge almost every weekend over the past few months. We take 3-4 patients while in charge on a Cardiac stepdown floor. It's very stressful but I'm good at handling it.

Catching myself being less tolerant of other people's laziness and messiness. It's hard when someone is always unhappy. At least I got no complaints about the assignment this morning when day shift came in. A first 😆

She means the person who gets told to stay home due to low census. When I worked the floor, it was rotated, and a list was kept.

Thanks, yea we have a grid that we go by that tells us how much staff to keep based on patient number/census and we have to call people off based on a list of whose turn it is

I don't understand why your low census call offs would be impacted by which shift does the assignment. That procedure would remain the same would it not?

We assess our staffing needs 2 hours prior to the start of the next shift. The assignment is made about 30 mins prior.

Specializes in Med/Surg, ICU.

Charge for the shift going off determines how many nurses are needed and who gets called off. Charge for the shift coming on determines patient assignemnts.
