VCUHS New Grad RN position

Published

Hi,

This is my first post on allnurses. It has been a great resource for me through school and as a new grad job hunting! I have a phone interview set up for a new grad RN position at VCU Health System. I was wondering if anyone has gone through their interview process or has any information regarding the new grad program? I have been searching the site and have not found a whole lot about their new grad RN positions. I am not from VA so I don't know a whole lot about the area. Thanks so much for you time!

haha I don't know how I put this in Virginia Nursing Schools, should probably go in a general Virginia or nurse job assistance. Sorry!

I'll move your post to the general Virginia forum. :-)

Have you heard anything from VCU since you interview with HR?

VCU is a great health system. I started their as a new grad and went through their new grad process.

They start you with a phone interview and ask you a few questions in regards to your experience, strengths, weaknesses and areas that you would like to work in. They will then forward your application to the hiring managers on the units you said you had interest in, if they are hiring new grads, and you will wait to be contacted from them if they want to call you in for an interview. Also, most new grads are not hired into their ICU's and no new grads are hired into their ER's unless you've got some serious connections and work as a PCT prior to.

It is a fairly easy and painless process. Congratulations on just applying! Welcome to Virginia!

mjh11rn: Thank you! I completed my phone interview a few weeks ago. I have been in contact with HR. I was told my résumé was forwarded to two units, so I am just waiting :/ how long did you have to wait after your phone interview to hear back from a manager?

It can take a few weeks. It all depends on the unit manager and their hiring process. As you probably know they can really drag their feet and what seems like no time to them can seem like forever to us, lol.

haha, exactly! I am trying to be patient, but I don't think it's working. I am supposed to call HR tomorrow to follow up.

Did you ever interview with VCUHS? If so, what type of interview questions did they ask?

I interviewed there about a week ago. I felt very comfortable in both interviews and they asked only behavioral questions. Things about your character like how you handle conflict, teamwork, communication, criticism, and pressure.

Hi there! I recently applied to the VCU nurse residency program! I would really love to work there. Did any of you end up getting the job? What unit and how was it? And how was the interview process? How is life in Richmond, I'll be moving from California if I get it! Thank you so much!
