VCU ABSN Summer 2016

Published

Hi everyone!

I wanted to start a topic for people applying to VCU's ABSN program this fall that starts Summer 2016. I've been reading the 2014 and 2015 threads and found them really helpful, especially reading other stats of students who had been accepted in the past.

I've already submitted my application, sent my SAT scores, sent my college transcript, and I'm just waiting on my references! I'm taking microbio at Emory University in Atlanta through their SON right now, and will be taking A&P 1 and 2 through their nursing school in the spring. Emory made these pre-req classes specifically for pre-health students and offers Anatomy as one class and Physiology as another to be taken together in one semester. I'm worried about taking both in the spring though and how it will look on my application though having them uncompleted currently!

I graduated from Virginia Tech in May with a degree in Business Management and currently work as a consultant. However, I've worked for a healthcare company for three years and also interned for another major children's hospital. My GPA is low... below a 3.0, which is one of my biggest fears (I hated business classes... but it was "practical"). All of the science/health classes I took are A's though. I'm also volunteering at Children's in Atlanta once a week in the ER along and their cancer center. My SAT score is 1280.

I'm also applying to Emory's program in Atlanta and thinking about applying to Bon Secour (not sure about that yet). I've also considered an associated program, but I'm worried about getting a job in Richmond with that degree!

Hoping to hear from past/current students and applicants about their stats and any advice for the application process!

The group is public for now and is called: VCU ABSN Summer 2016

Hey everyone..... the facebook page is a great idea. I was waitlisted at VCU. Right now I'm number 9. I have been accepted at 2 other schools. Now I have to figure out which school would be best for me. I am suppose to notify one of the schools next week with my decision but I won't find out for sure at VCU until March. I keep reading pros and cons for each of the schools. I really don't know what to do.

Hey guys! Congrats on your acceptance!!! I am so happy to have fellow Dukes going to VCU this summer. We should meet up sometime for lunch here at JMU before we graduate!

Congrats to everyone that has been accepted!

What other schools have you been accepted to? I'm currently deciding between George Washington and VCU. If I decline my offer, you'll move up another spot! Good luck!

Congratulations to you! The other 2 schools are Shenandoah University in Winchester, Va and Penn State in Altona. Do you know anything about either of these schools?

VCU SON Alum here :)

Just wanted to say congrats to you all! I'm still checking this thread on and off if you guys have questions (and i'll also join your fb group so you can communicate through there, as well).

For those of you wait listed - don't give up hope! I was wait listed when I applied a couple of years ago and here I am, a VCU SON graduate and critical care nurse. Pow pow! Chins up :)

Allie

P.S. - some people were asking about tuition. My final tuition number for the entire program was just about $30K. :)

Yes, I was actually accepted to Shenandoah as well (Leesburg campus). I honestly haven't heard wonderful things about the program, it's apparently a bit disorganized and some students haven't had the best of luck with clinicals. But every program has its pros and cons! I haven't heard much about Altoona, but I do know that Penn State has excellent programs!

Hey everyone!

I've never posted on here before but I figured it was time seeing as how I was an applicant to VCU's ABSN program as well! All of the advice and good vibes have been great to read through and have really helped with getting through all of this. Congratulations on everyone's acceptances! I'm #2 on the wait list so hopefully there's some good news for me and others in the near future. Are there any other VCU alums who were accepted? Fingers crossed I'll be joining the class!

Allison

Hey Allie,

i was was wondering is that tuition including all the fees like clinicals and whatnot? also, how much was your summer tuition and was it paid at the end of the summer?

@LexMichelle,

The first summer semester was between $5-6k which included all school/clinical/lab fees. There were a couple of expenses that we had at the beginning of the semester that we weren't told about in advance...for the life of me I can't remember what they were, but it was about $150. The tuition has to be paid in the beginning of the semester, though not necessarily by the first day. I would contact financial aid to see what the last date to pay is.

Hey All, I have also been accepted to VCU for summer 16. I decided to get on this forum since it is official. I live in Harrisonburg and graduated from JMU in 2010. I look forward to meeting everyone and seeing what other questions pop up on the thread. Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear. I know how stressful the last few months have been waiting to hear what the future holds.
