For those who applied and did or did not get hired:
what was your GPA? How important is it on determining of you get in?
I'm an LPN. I'll have my BSN in December.. Do you know if my LPN experience will make me look any more desirable? I've worked in skilled rehab/LTC for 2 years.
What seems to be the most important aspect in wether or not you got hired?
How important is volunteer experience to them?
Thanks in advance!! :-)
anyone? :-)

I did the nurse residency program. It is a point based system. The points come from gpa, work experience, leadership, volunteer, interview. the highest points get hired. I had a 3.3 from a local school, worked at a hospital previously, president of my nursing schools club, multiple volunteer experiences, and did well on my interview. the interview is behavior based questions. experience has to be from up to 6mo previous to applying.. meaning you don't put your mission trip to africa that you did 5yrs ago on the form. the form is online. go to vanderbilt.edu and type in nurse residency or google vandy nurse residency program. hope this helps a little.
Thank you that is very helpful! I have not heard before that it is a point based system. Is the GPA that they factor in the cumulative GPA or just the GPA from nursing courses? I ask because I am in the process of completing the application now and they asked for the email of my advisor so that they could get my GPA of just my nursing courses.
One more question if you don't mind. What about vacation once you get into the program? If I get in than I will have a scheduled family reunion 6 months after I start. Will I be able to get time off for that. I'm a little confused about when I can take off and when I can't. Thanks!
