Hey everyone!

This thread is for all of those out there who are planning on applying to one of Vanderbilt's MSN programs for Fall 2013. I'm starting to get my application packet together. I haven't started my interview survey questions and goal statement yet but I need to get on it. I need to take the GRE still though. Has anyone taken that? What did you get? Did you study? Harder than you thought?

Let's help each other get into their program!

Hi everyone, I'm new to this thread. I was just accepted to the AGACNP program starting in August 2013. I'll be moving from Baltimore so I'm interested to know if anyone has any info on where to live, and where not to live.

Also, does anyone know how many people are in our program?

I was admitted asa full time student but I'm considering switching to the 2 year part time so I can work, if this is possible. Does anyone have advice or comments about this?

I am looking at the Psych program starting 2014 and My GE scores are 153V 152Q and 4.0A. Should I just retake GRE or focus on other aspects of the application? I plan on submitting the application sometime in October;

Those are pretty low scores, barely past the 50th percentile. I'm sure you can do better! It's really not a difficult test. Just get a bunch of study guides and do lots of practice tests. Grab a vocab list from Quizlet and get crackin. I scored 166V and 159Q (1450 old scale) and only studied for a month. These programs are pretty damn competitive, so yes they look at the whole package, but it's still not good to have any blemishes on your application if you're serious about getting in your first time.

Would you recommend retaking anatomy if I got a C+, even if my GPA is 3.7+ overall in a quality state school BSN program?

I'm in for the AGPCNP program, part-time distance. I'm live in the Baltimore area, and would love to hear any good advice about where to stay while in town during blocks. Is the driving horrendous in Nashville? I'm considering staying in a cheaper hotel and renting a car versus staying in the nearby hotels...

I'm planning to apply VU for upcoming fall semester. I havent decided whether I should go for FNP or for NMW/FNP course.

I've heard that the average GPA of accepted students for the program was 3.8 but mine is 3.57. Do you think my application looks dull because of the GPA?

I'm starting in August and my undergraduate GPA (without nursing prerequisites) was a 3.38 or so. There are many factors that go into acceptance, including essays, experience, and GRE scores. If you feel like your GPA is low, make sure to get stellar GRE scores to offset it, and if you still have prereqs to take, go for the 4.0 - it shows you can be expected to be able to handle graduate level work.

So, what is your speciality that you chose to do? Is it FNP? I'm trying to get into either FNP or NMW/FNP course. Did you have a good GRE score? I'm not sure if they look at the analytic writing score too. Please share your experience with the application process :)

Many previous threads about Vanderbilt admissions show a number of applicants accepted with GPAs in this range. Common themes in their applications are significant work/volunteer experience, great GRE scores, amazing essays, and a passion for the selected specialty.

I would recommend to try to "wow" them with your analytic writing score. It's a tough area to get a high score in, and graduate education requires a significant amount of scholarly writing.

I don't think that there is any reason your GPA would keep you from admission if you can show what a great candidate you are as a whole. Best of luck!

I'm doing NMW and my GRE scores are all above 95%. I don't have much medical experience (volunteering for a few months in a NICU) but I do have international volunteer experience and relevant work experience. I've heard that Vanderbilt places a high emphasis on GRE/GPA in admissions, but I didn't complete my applications with any other schools so I'm not sure how they are in comparison - but definitely your GPA alone shouldn't discourage you from applying!

Hi, I am a newly accepted FNP for 2013. Does anyone have any knowledge about textbooks for the first semester and what the orientation details for 3 days? I would love to get a jump start on my reading, I have heard it is a bear.

You can retake but it's probably not necessary. I would focus more and a solid essay and great answers to the application questions; also strong letters of rec are VERY important. They asked about mine directly in my interview
