value of attaining certification as holistic nurse?

Published

One of my first goals after completing nursing school (BSN) and passing the NCLEX is to achieve AHNA certification, along with ACLS and, is it PCLS? Is AHNA certification a resume booster or a waste of time and money, in your experience?

Specializes in Correctional Nursing; MSN student.

I hope to obtain this certification as well. I think the more credentials one has the better. Ultimately it will depend on your personal and professional goals. What type of nursing do you hope to pursue?

Specializes in L&D, QI, Public Health.

I think it's a good thing if you want to start your own business, however from hospital point of view, I really don't think it matters.

However there are some hospitals that pay more for certifications, no matter what they are.

What are your career goals?

My ultimate career goal is to open or work for a non-profit holistic family wellness and birth center as an FNP/CNM. So yes, it does fit well within my overall game plan. And it is the paradigm I hope to work within throughout my nursing career. I'm just wondering if it will also give me any kind of a leg up AFA getting a job initially.

Nurse midwives are kind of seen as holistic-ty already, so I don't think you need a certification for that.

As far as getting a job with a wellness center, jobs for RNs are few and far between in that area.

However if the certification means something personally to you then I would just go ahead and get it.

The knowledge gained through studying for the certification will serve you.

By the way AHNA has a new certification called nurse coach I would look into that as well.

It may be more marketable for getting a job with a wellness center or holistic practice.
