Congrats! They have this program at one of the schools I got accepted to. It's basically a specialized training program - you have extra classes that address the specific needs and considerations in caring for veterans, and you do all of your clinical rotations in VA hospitals with the same small group. Once you graduate, you have a very good chance at landing a job with the VA, and they often hire grads of the VALOR program at a higher base pay than other new grads due to the training received in the program. Only a few nursing programs in the US offer this program. If I end up picking that school, I am definitely applying for it!
It's a student nurse residency program, basically you get paid to work as a student nurse. I hope I get it, it'll be great experience and a foot in the door to be hired at the VA. For us the requirements are senior level nursing student, good grades/recommendations, and get accepted. It's a job, starting at around 20$/hr.
Thank you just_keep_swimming!
I am a disabled veteran and applied for the Valor program in Seattle, I was called yesterday to interview for one of their ten slots and I am very nervous. I do not have a high Gpa, so I was actually surprised that they called! I am trying to prepare for the interview but am at a loss. I also am trying to figure out how the logistics would work because I live 6 hours away, so I need to rent something for 10 weeks if I am chosen... Any ideas!?
And where did you apply?
That's awesome!!! Good luck on your interview! I live down in graham, so I don't have any ideas for where to live :/ is the position only in Seattle? Maybe you could search to see if there are any students looking for a roommate or someone that wants to sublet their apartment over the summer while they go home for the summer?
I've applied to UW & will be applying to PLU shortly, I'm just procrastinating bc I really want to get into UW
