VA Travel Nurse Corp

Hello all! I've been working at a local VA hospital for about 5 years now, and am interested in travel nursing. There are so many agencies out there it's ridiculous! One that peaked my interest though was the VA travel nurse corp. I want to continue working for the VA if possible, so it seems as though I would get the best of both worlds. Have any of you worked or work for the VA travel nurse corp? I would be interested in getting your feedback. Thanks!

Any update? I don't need insurance so would like to know if this is a viable way to travel nurse. Thanks.

So sorry! Just now saw your comment. Traveling is going well! I would definitely recommend the VA over any private agency. Have you looked at their website? http://www.travelnurse.va.gov

How long are the assignments they are offering? Do they actually have enough work to keep you busy?

Generally 13 weeks. You can extend for a period of up to 9 months. They do have work, but sometimes you might not get to go exactly where you want. They offer potential assignments (they provide a list) every month or so and you apply to your top two choices. At one point I seriously considered traveling with a private agency when I couldn't find a job in Austin, but after doing all the math, realized I'd be losing A LOT of money going private. So I went to Dallas with the VA and it worked out fine!
