Greetings everyone!

I just recently got hired as a new graduate RN at the VA in Palo Alto. I'm curious to know how often you get raises? Is it every 6 months or annually? There seems to be a lot of steps within each level and I wanted to know how often you can expect to get to the next step. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

I moved your post to the Government/Military forum where you are more likely to get answers. Congrats on the job! ?

A nurse 1 will receive within grade raise yearly until some point in the N1 grade 3 level. Nurse 2 is every 2 years . Can ask for reconsideration at that time. I believe N3 is every 2 yrs as well but not certain.

Proficiency is due yearly regardless of pay status.

Once you hit Nurse I Level 3 Step 8, you go to every other year for automatic step increases. I peaked early because I started at L2 S5, then got my yearly step increase AND promotion to L3 during my first proficiency, which put me at L3S8 my first year. I didn't have enough under my belt to write about for my second proficiency to get Nurse II, so I didn't get another increase for two years. Do all the things you can to get to Nurse II once you hit N1L3!
