VA Nurse Pay

Specialties Government

I went to work for the VA in 1989 after getting my Masters in Nursing. I was in charge of Nursing Education for the nurses at that hospital. I had to retire on medical disability in 1992. At that time my pay grade was IN-06. The pay scales and the names of the pay grades have changed, and I don't know what that would be equal to. I need to find out what the pay for that position would be now. I have been able to work part time, but if I earn too much, I lose the disability pension. The pension is barely enough to pay for my medical insurance, but I can't risk losing the insurance. The VA told me that it wasn't in their best interests to give me that information. I am unable to work full time, but I've had to turn down a pay raise because I was afraid I would earn too much. I would appreciate any help anyone can give. I have looked at the pay scales for VA nurses, but I don't know which one would be equal to IN-06.

ok, I'll have to ask for a copy of it when I interview, which I hope to be sometime soon. Sending in the rest of my documents tomorrow. Anyone know how long it takes after the end of the application filing deadline that they contact you?

Depends on when they need to hire, the number of applicants, how your application is rated etc. There is no set time frame for them to contact you. Good luck.

Ok, thanks. The job listing said they had 5 openings. I am hoping that means they need someone soon!

Hello, just stumbled upon your thread and I believe in one of them you had mentioned frustrations related to LTC facilities. If so I would love to chat! It looks like you have a varied background in nursing and I would love your insight in comparing hospital to LT skilled unit. Soo overworked it isn't funny and feeling pretty discouraged.
