Hi, I have 14 years experience as a nurse and have my BSN. I just got a job in a step down ICU at a great company however the physical demands are enormous....and so much to learn as my background has always been med-surg. I just got a phone call for a job interview for a VA-long term care facility which I had applied quite a while back....wondering what that is like...maybe a little easier on me physically? I have never worked long term care but would love to work with veterans. I have a LOT of experience working with the geriatric population. Also what is it like to work for the VA? thoughts anyone? any input would be greatly appreciated! THANK YOU

I work for a LTC/rehab facility, I imagine its a lot like your proposed scenario, basically LTC with some difficult family discussions re:LTC vs rehab, unfortunately in my experience....I would go for the VA setting just because they'd have better benifets, go for it, if they take you definitely go for it.

I've been in VA LTC since April 2020. Hands down worst job I've ever had. I was previously a supervisor And here I get no respect.
I literally come home crying every morning from the mismanagement and the way its set up. Once youre in they won't consider you for another position . I will probably end up quitting . Everything is on paper and things get missed. It is very very different from other LTC.
