VA Hospitals that schedule 12s and 8s come here!!

VA hospital nurses do your hospitals schedule inpatient beds at 12s and 8s? We are having a difficult time getting 12s in our unit but other units throughout the hospital have 12s. It is strange how it doesn't go for everyone. How do you do staffing, weekends off? Just curious how you got it implemented and how it is working and if everyone is happy. I would really like to move towards 12 hour shifts bc as a mother working over night it is just better for my family and own health, the more nights in bed at night the better my health is! Please let me know if you have any ideas, I am going to be creating mock scheduling and taking polls on the unit about who wants to have them if they are willing and possibly getting it so that they work every third weekend or have people who are interested in working only weekends as that pays more. Feedback is welcome TIA!!!:redpinkhe:redpinkhe:redpinkhe:redpinkhe:redpinkhe:redpinkhe

What does your AFGE contract say?

8 hour shifts is what the contract has, the nurse exc. allowed the 12s in ICU as a trial basis. Just curious if people have had the oppertunity to create the change from 8 to 12s and how they might have gone about it. I was thinking of forumlating research articles about the positive and negatives, but in the end is staffing and money that is going to create the want/need for change. Thanks for your response :)
