From the previous posts I've read the VA hiring process is pretty long and drawn out. I've applied to two different VA sites. The VA an hour away from my home I can always get in contact with a nurse recruiter and my application status for two posting says "referred to selecting official." The VA closest to my home, I can't get through to the recruiter, she emailed me back once and the status of all the apps just says "application received." I do know a nurse practitioner that works at this VA site and she tried to give my resume to the recruiter, but I had to apply online.
For those of you that are familiar with the hiring process, any idea what the next step is. In all there are around 20 RN vacancies. The two systems have two completely different online application submissions, how will I know if I've completed the application process correctly, its a little confusing
I've been applying since I've graduated and earlier this year I found out that I was applying the wrong way so those positions don't count. These positions closed in September.
Thanks in advance ?
Yes, getting hired is definitely the easy part. I interviewed end of April and will start in October. This whole process has been a comedy of errors for me: my HR rep leaving the dept and leaving my file hanging, me showing up for a scheduled meeting to find that the person who scheduled it was on vacation, filling out one form three different times, and last of all the ppwk from my physical has gone missing. You know who I feel bad for? The dept manager. He needs a nurse. Too bad it takes 6 months to get someone there. No wonder they like to do internal hires. I am banking on the thought that it will all be worth it!
As a former contract nurse who had to go through all the same BS, keep in mind that there are probably 15 people up the chain that are responsible for hiring you. It's the government, so it's bogged down by redundant federal workers who do nothing but CYA as part of their jobs. Once you do your boarding, all this HR crap will be in the past. Except for your annual TMS training...LOL! Wait until you have to do that for the first time!
It's been four weeks since my fingerprinting and I believe I turned in Vetpro right before that. I've emailed my recruiter twice to check in and I haven't heard back. I really dislike where I'm working so I was hoping to hear sooner rather than later. I'm glad this was posted as I can see that it may take another month or so to hear back. For those already working....how many days did it take from your fingerprinting?? Thanks
So I applied to the va and have received your a candidate letter two weeks ago. I did call the main hr person on the 10th day jus to kinda get my name across their lips and not to be forgotten. The women said the job is still open and they have several candidates they have to sort through. Yes I know it takes forever to get signed on. But sheesh how long before the interview? I don't know how much longer I can take at my current job and thought about quitting to do a short travel assignment. I feel lost in limbo. I really want this job but how long should I wait??
Well, Vwpenn, I start at the VA next month and the whole process has taken 6 months from application to start date. Patience and perseverance are key.
I don't know what the "you're a candidate" letter is because I never got one of those. Does it specify whether you meet minimum requirements or that you are guaranteed an interview?
All I know is that nothing is very speedy....although I think my 6 month process is a little longer than most.
Good luck!
Thanks for the input. The your a candidate letter is actually a letter they send that says that I'm qualified for the position and they was forwarding all my stuff to the outpatient center I applied for. Still haven't beard anything this week. Fingers cross this coming week I'll hear something. I'm getting awful religious real quick! :) I definitely have to get out of my current job. Besides the loss of pay (they took away our weekend pay) and increased our patient load, they now send put mass text every single day wanting help (wonder why) but their willing to offer call back pay + 5. So why not jus kept the pay they cut? Smh......oh well please keep your fingers crossed for me!
Hey how long does it take to get an interview or hear back from them about my application? I know I have the requirements for the RN clinic job and then some. It has been a month exactly since I applied. Every time I try to call HR about my app I get the run around. Is it normal to take this long or should I just hang it up? Usajobs only tells me my status is received..still after a month. I thought I would hear something by now. Confused on what to do next

Have you checked the "closing date" on USAJobs? You won't hear anything from them either way until AFTER that date. In fact, it may be up to a month after that date that you'll hear something from them. Also, log in to your USAJobs account frequently to check for status changes, even though those are supposed to get emailed to you.

Yeah the closing date was a month ago today. I frequently check usajobs and right now my status is still application received. I was just wondering if process really that slow or do I just hang it up

My recollection is that I received a notice that I was NOT considered for a position, so, I wouldn't give up just yet...
