UVA SON Transfer Hopeful

Hi!

I was wondering if anyone else will be applying by the March 1st deadline for entrance into UVA's nursing program?

I will be considered a transfer student. I have completed almost all pre-req's.

It's my understanding that I go through "Common App" first to apply, send in my transcripts, etc. and then .. ? If I'm reading correctly, once the undergrad application is completely submitted - the SON conducts an initial review first without a full application to the actual SON itself?

Please correct me if I'm wrong!

Submit the main Common Application and the UVa Transfer supplement. Have your transcripts sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

The admissions committee will begin reviewing your application after March 1 assuming that the full application (Common App part, UVa Transfer supplement, recommendation, transcripts) are received. Admissions decisions will be announced by May 1st.

Unfortunately, I am not eligible to apply because I went to a previous college for 3 years. Pretty disappointing.

We have applicants who have gone to college for 1, 2 or three years. You are still eligible to apply provided that you have not completed an undergraduate degree already (BA or BS). However, all transfer students enroll as Second Year students and need to take 3 additional years of coursework to the BSN degree.

I was told by admissions that even though I do not have BA/BS and understand that I would be going 3 years for the BSN, I am still not eligible because I've gone to another school for 3 years.

This is what it says on their website:

"Students who have completed three or more years of study at another college or university are not eligible for transfer admission to the College."

I inquired about this. There have been changes to federal financial aid regulations that prohibit an undergraduate student from receiving more than 5 years total of financial aid (including scholarships or loans) Because all transfer students to the School of Nursing need three years to complete the BSN at UVa, students who have already been in school for 3 years could not get aid for the three remaining years at UVa.

I've never taken out a loan or received financial aid, though. Bummer.
