UTSW February 2022 Residency

Hello All! This is a forum for those applying to the UTSW Residency Program this upcoming February 2022. I applied to UTSW residency and a couple of other hospitals. Good luck to everyone!

I just finished up my interview with UT Southwestern acute medical and it went great, I got lots of compliments! However, I thought acute medical included specialized progressive care, at least that’s how it was at the old hospital I worked at.

Now I’m realizing I’ve totally applied for the wrong unit. I sent some indecisive emails to the coordinator about an interview with progressive care and I’m sure I’ve ruined my reputation by now.

I really have my heart set on UT Southwestern though. If I somehow manage to still get this job, is it worth it to just work MedSurg for a year and try to get into a fellowship? Or should I just give up and go with Baylor or THR…

I also applied to acute medical, did they describe what that unit is like? it is pretty vague so I am curious.

They don’t have very many patients on telemetry and the units aren’t specialized except for neuro. I’m so upset with myself haha…

Just take what you can get at utsw. Most people like myself did not even get an interview

I agree. Take what you can get, Most people like myself did not even get an interview either and I worked there. You can always transfer and or do a fellowship. They are very good at doing the fellowships to transfer.

does anyone know if they ask for any recommendation letters during the interview or after the interview and if so, how many do they need?

What questions did they ask you if you don’t mind me asking? And are there any questions you wish you would have asked going in or did ask that you were glad you did?

I just finished my interview and they didn’t ask me for any recommendation letters! I did upload one on my original application though!
