Hi all,
Does anyone know which BACC-2 program is better out of UTMB and UT-Houston? Besides the fact that UTMB is located in Galveston, what other differences are there?
Thank you very much to anyone that answers!! ;-)

I've heard from several sources (former students and coordinators of the programs) that the UT Houston program is better organized. Although, when I was at UTH for my interview a few weeks ago they said a few things are being switched around for the bacc2 program this summer with the curriculum which may make things more difficult. I've heard that the program in Galveston is less organized.
Thank you. I went for my interview at UTH today. I got the same impression. Good luck to you!! I hope that I get to meet you this May for the start of the UTH program.
I didn't realize they are still interviewing students for the accelerated program. Did they tell you how many they are interviewing vs. accepting? And do you really think we will have to wait until April 15 for our status? Good luck to you!

Britt - You asked the same questions I'm wondering!! I thought they were done interviewing for the bacc2 program also and was hoping that maybe we'd know something in the next couple of weeks. Oh, well.....it may very well be April!
Congrats Life on your interview!!!!

I know! It makes me wonder if they didn't get enough qualified applicants the first round and chose to interview more. Or, perhaps they just overlooked some folks and brought them in later. I thought it strange that they would not disclose the number of interviewees for the bacc2 program when I went for mine. It was as if they weren't sure how many they were going to interview.
Hiya,
I'm pretty sure that they are conducting interviews every week, almost up until they tell us who gets in. When I went to the question and answer session last March (2007) to inquire about the BACC2 program, they said they interview between 500-700 and accept somewhere btw 40-60. I have a friend who goes to UT-H and she said that every week they have interviews.
Good luck to us! Either of you accepted into UTMB BACC2 program?
I only applied to UTH as I live way north of Houston so that's a commute already. I've got a husband and kiddos so we're not willing to move or anything. Also, I was told at the info meeting I went to over the summer that they'd gotten 1400 applications, interviewed 300-400 and accepted around 140 into the BSN program. But they never broke it down as far as the Bacc2. Someone also told me that they were interviewing around 120 for the Bacc2 this year, but I have NO idea where they got that info or if it's correct. I guess I figured that they interviewed/picked the bacc2 people first since if you don't make it in, you get put into the application pool for the traditional program. Who knows?! :) I'm hoping maybe UTLink will show something by the end of the month. Hey, a girl can hope, right?!

UTMB all the way guys ... of coorifice I am biased since I graduated there, as well as all the other nurses and doctors in my family! You cannot beat the academia ... lot of expertise within the SON faculty. Being that it is the oldest bachelors program in the state, there is a lot of history and tradition! Good luck future nurses .... hurry .... I am tired of working all this overtime to compensate for the shortage!
Cool. Thank you!!

I would also have to say UTMB, then again I am biased as well... I am a current student... and need I add that we have the current highest NCLEX pass rate in the state!!!
I have friends in both bacc2 programs and what many people do not realize about UTMB is that they offer clinical opportunities in both Houston (medcenter) and Galveston... I have done ALL of my clinical rotations in the med center thus far... so if you are choosing schools based on that then there is some info for ya... I also live in Friendswood and my commute both ways is not bad at all! Around 35-40mins to school and 30mins to the med center (at like 6am)
Both programs are awesome schools to receive an education, my suggestion is to always apply apply apply! Apply to any school you MIGHT consider and see where you get accepted... Good luck!
