UTHSCSA Traditional BSN Application Fall 14

Published

Hello! So I had seen threads started for past classes and didn't see one yet for the Fall of 2014 class, so I figured I would start one. So let me introduce myself. My name is Will Long, I am a 27 years old male and I am applying for UTHSCSA's Traditional BSN program for the Fall of 2014. I have started my application and have signed up to take the TEAS test next Friday. I am pretty excited about finally being able to apply after finishing up all the pre-reqs. Anyways I was hoping this thread could be used a source of information and a place to ask each other questions throughout the application process. Anybody else out there applying? Have you already taken your TEAS test?

Same here I just applied to UTHSCSA

I'm with Will...I only applied to UTHSCSA...UIW is too expensive and would take longer, plus UTHSCSA has such a great reputation for turning out great nurses. Leaving San Antonio is not an option for me, so those were the only two programs to consider...

So what kind of patients are we wanting to work with? I don't like kids, so they are out for me :p

I'm personally trying to stay open-minded...I've had people tell me that your "niche" will find you, but I have a feeling I will end up working with kids in some capacity- it's just where my heart is. My husband is worried a little about it though...he thinks that I will get emotionally attached, I just figure that is what will help make me a great nurse:inlove:

Hello everyone. I am yet another stalker of this page that decided to make an account. I currently attend UTSA so I have lived in San Antonio ever since I graduated high school and went off to college. (Aug. 2012) I really had my heart set on UTHSCSA and still do but I'm starting to consider UT Houston. I am going to graduate school to become an NP and I just want to pick the best school that will help me get accepted. I know UT Houston is associated with MD Anderson, one of the best hospitals in the world, but I know UTHSCSA is also an awesome school. Does anyone know which one might look better for grad school or if it really won't make much of a difference? I also was going to ask, I have heard people from previous semesters say getting the supplemental means your like 90% in as long as you pass the background check. Is that what y'all are thinking as well?

I think they are both great schools and either would look be a good stepping stone for grad school...They are both ranked closely (nationally/state)... As far as receiving the supplemental...I think most of us that received it are praying that you are right...just not wanting to assume or jinx it!

Okay awesome! Thanks!

I put all my eggs in one basket and only applied at UTHSCSA.

I have to do that as well, because with being married and having 2 small children moving around all over isn't an option!

I happened to come across a post in another section that mentioned the importance of anonymity on this forum. Just wondering if you all thought about using this site as we make our journey through nursing school and into our careers if having our pictures/names or a means to identify ourselves is such a great idea. Something to think about. One person posted about being deposed, legal matters with a patient or employer, background investigation, etc. So far we've only posted about our experience with getting into nursing school, but down the line, we may ask about courses, patient situations, etc and we might not want to be identifiable. If something is asked that may be construed as not capable/professional , violating HIPPA, who knows. Just a thought... you could look at other postings that I've run across on this forum mentioning what could happen.

that's why my icon is cher horowitz lmaoo

I would like to work with patients with brain and nervous system disorders--hence my profile name. The nervous system was by far the most rewarding and challenging body system I studied in A&P. I ended up falling in love with it! But who knows, this could change once I actually get the opportunity to work with diverse patient populations. Good question!

mirasmom, I had read one like that also. It makes sense. I changed mine. Can anyone tell me who my icon is? :) (hint: he is a character on one of the best tv shows ever IMO)
