Published

Hey guys!

Anyone else here applying to the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Nursing Program? I am currently a student at Texas State University and will be applying for the fall semester! The application deadline is quickly approaching, I'm super nervous!!

My stats are:

Math/Science GPA: 3.3

Overall GPA: 3.7

Overall TEAS: 90.7

Let me know your stats!

I am a little nervous. I don't know if I am within good standing or if my stats are too low...

GPA: 3.51

Math and Science GPA: 3.63

TEAS: 82.5

Does the school actually consider experience and the essay question?

For Fall 2018 it seems like the

Avg TEAS Score: 83% Avg cumulative GPA: 3.54 Avg math/science GPA: 3.64

so I think you have a good chance! I'm assuming they wouldn't make us write an essay if they weren't going to consider it, and I know their process is very holistic! Don't worry! ☺️

Hey aislyngail!

This is UTHSCSA's first semester of doing a "holistic review" of each student's application! From my understanding, they take will take experiences and the essay into consideration alongside GPA and TEAS scores. Also, your stats are really good! I'm also really nervous, last year's applicants found out their admissions decisions at the beginning of April. Hopefully ours will come a bit sooner this year!

Hey! I went to the application workshops at UTHSCSA and the man running it said they take the essay and activities form very seriously along with your scores and GPA. I hope you were able to put some really great stuff on there!

Have you had a chance to look at the student profiles for past years?

Hey, future classmates! ;)

Every morning I check NursingCAS (I know it's way too early to know) and this discussion forum. I think it helps ease the nerves. Before I applied I read through the previous posts similar to this one. SO for future applicants, let's share advice about the process.

What advice do you have for students applying to the program?

Mine would be: 1) Attend an application workshop, if possible. 2) Turn your transcripts in the right way and early (don't forget the cover letters!).

Ugh, the anxiousness is setting in for me! I wish we could fast forward through these next couple of months so we can know whether we got in or not! I sent my transcripts into NursingCAS electronically, were we supposed to mail hard copies in?

A couple of tips for students applying: 1) Explore volunteer and extracurricular opportunities that will give you experience in the health care field! Even if its just a school club, it will still make your resume stand out! 2) Get everything for your app done a couple of weeks early, that way you have time to make minor/last minute changes if needed!

Hey thanks a lot! I know I was reading a bunch of the previous allnurses UTHSCSA forums. I wish they just had a set date for our acceptances :(.

Thank you for responding! I have... I just wish I was a little better off than average! A little worried but I hope the essay and all help. Good luck to you!

I also sent my transcript in electronically... and now, I have the same question? Did you ever receive an answer

Hey! Just got an email from NursingCAS this morning that said my transcripts and application were verified so I think we should be just fine with the electronic copies we sent in! Sorry I didn't back to you sooner on that ?

Hi, future nursing students! I'm a nursing student at UTHSCSA in my first semester right now. I was in your shoes last summer. Our deadline for the application was Aug 1st, and they told us that it would be a month AFTER the deadline before they notified anyone of their status. In fact it was an agonizing 6 weeks. They told a lot of people "no" first, and the "yeses" came after. I found out 9/19/18. All of the stats I saw were competitive, based on the average scores admitted for the last year. I did do A LOT of volunteer work, and though most of my scores were good (average by their standards), my math was low because of failing grade many years ago. They average all the math. :( That was my main stressor at the time.

Btw, YES, go ahead and start your Hep B series, so you won't be stressed about it later. They will put a hold on your registration for most of those immunizations. They are very specific and able to answer questions about it when it gets closer to the due date (about a month after they notify if you are accepted.)

ANYWAY, keep in touch with each other. Our nursing cohort is close, and many of us first met on allnurses and then started a facebook page for just our group. That group is utilized by your UTHealth mentors and classmates in the 6th-8th semesters, all here to help you and answer your questions, help you through registration. Keep the hope! I can't wait to meet you all! And I'm happy to answer questions.

When are ya'll planning on starting your Hep B vaccine series?

I got my hep B series when I was a baby... am I missing something? ? Is it something that has to be done twice?
