Hi, I've just recently found out that I was accepted into both UTHSC School of Nursing and UTMB School of Nursing. I have no idea which school I should choose. They both have their own pros and cons to them.
UTHSC is a top-ranked competitive nursing school, both state-wide as well as nation-wide. But I've heard that a lot of people don't like the program or the professors. Some people have told me that they hated it there. But it is more convenient since I live in Houston already.
UTMB is great, but not as highly-recognized as UTHSC. It is also all the way in Galveston. So I would either have to commute every day (1+ hour each way) or live there. But my sister went there for nursing and she highly recommends the program, saying that staff are really helpful about everything.
Any feedback and advice you guys could give would be awesome! Thanks in advance!

I by far recommend UTMB. The school is very prestigious and the students are very well respected in the clinical settings. A huge amount of the graduating class already have jobs in place before graduation as well. The hospitals in the med center and surrounding areas really like to hire UTMB graduates.
The program is fast-paced with all programs being 15 months unless you are doing the 11 month BACC2. It's hard but it goes by fast and you have UNLIMITED resources to help you succeed. A lot of the students drive in from Katy, Sugarland, downtown houston, etc so more than likely you will find someone to carpool with. I definitely was happy with UTMB and could not imagine being an alumni at any other nursing school!
Thanks! That's the same EXACT thing my sister was telling me. I wasn't sure if she was being biased or not. It's heartening to see other UTMB graduates feeling the same way.

I am about to graduate from UTHSC (4 days!) and I have enjoyed the program. It is a lot of work, but we have some great professors who really try to help and want to see each student succeed. I would recommend the school, with a warning to be prepared to work (but I'm sure that's true of UTMB as well)!

If you don't mind me asking, have you found a job yet?I know the UTHSC is an extremely tough program so if it wasn't hard work, I'd definitely be surprised!

Yes, I have one job offer, I'm waiting to hear for another one. I'm still in shock about surviving school! Congratulations on your acceptance! Yes you will work hard, but you will make some awesome friends and learn so much!
