Hi,

I have a woman who I talk to. Shes 40 years old and was just diagnoised with uterian cancer and is scared to death. She had a ct scan done and they said the mass was 3inches by 7inches. Im not sure if they caught it early or not, she didnt say. What I wanted to know is how deadly is it? What is the chance of being cured? What is the probability of her living? I love her to death and dont want to lose her. Ive been bawling my eyes out ever since she told me. Im 16 years old and met her over the internet. We talk almost every day either on the phone or msn. Ive known her for a year and shes like a second mom to me, I tell her everything. I dont know what id do without her. Im in tears as im writing this. I cant believe this is happening to her.

Hello,

I am so sorry your friend is going through this. I am an RN on a med/surg oncology floor. Cancer has stages and types that are determined by how well differentiated the cells are and how fast it is growing. Her doctor will have to biopsy the tumor/remove the ovary to find this information out. It also makes a difference whether the cancer has metastasized or spread to any other organs or places in the body. Even people who have metastatic cancer can survive with treatment. Your friend is lucky to have your support.

hi destany,

it does depend on the staging of the cancer and if any other organ systems are involved, such as the lymph system or the colon, etc.

for what it is worth, i am fifty years old and was diagnosesed with uterine cancer in december and had surgery in january. the doctor feels sure that he has gotten all of the cancer and the lymph system was not involoved so i did not need chemo or radiation at this time.

i go for check ups every 3 months and i am back to work on the medical floor full time. cancer is not an automatic death sentence, but it is scarey. you can be supportive to your friend and take one day at a time. good luck.

Thank you so much. My friend goes to the doctor on Wednesday, Im not sre what they are going to do. The doctor told her that as far as they know the cancer has not spread or gotten into her lymph nodes. Her doctor is at Vanderbilt in Nashville so shes at a real good place. Everyone keeps telling me cancer is not a death sentence. Im trying to have faith. I keep saying to myself shes going to be ok, God will take care of her. God is the ultimate doctor. Im not sure if they've caught it early or not, I didnt ask. I'll keep you updated when she goes to the doctor on Wednesday. Thanks for the support.
