UTA FNP Spring 2019

Hello!

I was accepted into the UT Arlington MSN FNP AO program to start the Spring 2019 semester. I'm trying to find fellow classmates who will be on the same journey.

I just completed my RN-BSN AO @ UTA last month and will graduate this December.

I look forward to meeting everyone who will share this experience with me.

Thank you for your input! Do you think it is better to take all those theoretical courses like ethics and research first before the actual professional courses?

My current degree plan has some random order, I think. I just completed Nursing theories and doing Research right now. My next course is Patho..

I did all the easy classes first because it was easy to do while working. With clinicals and some of the harder classes, you might want to go PRN or take some time off to complete these. Depending on if that’s even an option, but I don’t know how people could do patho/pharm with a busy life! (It’s definitely possible, it would just be awful!) But for me, it made sense!

Hello! I just found out that I was accepted into the UTA May 20, 2019 cohort! I'm excited and nervous the same time!

Is there anyone else with this start date? I would love to join a group so that we could help each other along the way!

I will be starting on May 20th for the Summer Cohort. Already registered for my summer classes (Nursing Theory, and Research). Hoping it's not too difficult! It's been awhile since I've had to use APA

Hi

Do you have to live in Texas ??

Specializes in Critical Care Registered Nurse.

I am currently a UTA RN-BSN student and am set to begin the UTA FNP program in Spring 2021. I am trying to choose between this and another program. (I will already have take the theories & research courses by the time I begin the MSN)

What has been your experience in the program so far?

Are there instructional powerpoints or is it mostly them throwing articles at you and saying, "hey, read these and take the test"?

Is it mostly self taught?

Are the teachers responsive or helpful if you have questions?

Does the program mostly consist of writing papers or mostly exams?

Do they still require the use of webcams for exams?

Do you feel prepared for clinical?

it is expensive. Not well organized, wish I would have applied to another school. Better than chamberlain though

there are PowerPoints in every class but they don’t feel helpful, no articles really.

Is it mostly self taught?

yes completely self taught. If you are organized and self motivated you’ll do well

Are the teachers responsive or helpful if you have questions?

depends. You get a main professor then each class you have a “coach” who is supposed to answer questions but they take forever most of the time the courses are FAST paced so by they time they answer you it’s too late. You do one class at a time and a usual class is 5 weeks pharm and patho are 11 weeks labs are 3 weeks. So very fast paced if you miss an assignment they DO NOT give you chances unless you are dying. No room for mistakes or forgetting to turn in anything ever.

Does the program mostly consist of writing papers or mostly exams?

no papers. Program consists of DB posts and quizzes and exams depending on classes labs consists of videos each 45-60 min long and you can’t go over a single min. Some PowerPoints in some classes.

Do they still require the use of webcams for exams?

YES!!

Do you feel prepared for clinical? Absolutely NOT! Also, don’t expect to get any help finding a preceptor in this program.

if there is a local program you can apply to or go to UTA on campus I would recommend that instead of this program. If your only option is to be 100% online because of work and life situations then this program will work for you but just note the things I pointed out above are frustrating. In the end it comes down to getting good preceptors and having knowledge through your nursing experience.

Thank you for answering all of my questions! You were very thorough.

I am searching for another program that is inexpensive or moderately expensive, great quality, possibly helps find preceptors, and will allow students to reserve some clinical hours for a sub-specialty office/area of choice.

My search is still on with some good prospects in mind.

Any ideas or awesome programs come to mind that your FNP peers have gone to? Or do you hear good things about other specific schools?

I start research in about two weeks. Theory class went well. Any advice? Book recommendations?

Hey guys I begin my research online tomorrow any advice? I have already started on my first discussion. How are the quizzes like and did anyone have Dr. Misher as a coach? How was she like?

Is this for the BSN-level Research course or the 500 level graduate research course? I have taken the BSN 400 level.

MSN level nurs 5366.
