UT Health Pacesetter Summer 2019

Published

Was waiting for someone else to make this thread, but I'm too anxious!

I am applying for the Summer 2019 application cycle at UT Health Science in Houston.

Stats:

HESI Overall: 92.4

Nursing Pre-req GPA: 3.88

Science Pre-req GPA: 4.0

Cumulative GPA: 3.41

My science Pre-req is excluding Chemistry. I'll be taking that in the Spring along with a few last minute pre-reqs. I have 2 F's in random classes on my transcript from a few year ago when I lost my mode of transportation. Unfortunately that's bringing my cumulative GPA down. Still feel like I have a shot though, so I am applying!

I'll also be applying for UTMB Fall 2019, Lone Star Fall 2019, and reapplying to UT Health Fall 2019 (if need be).

I went through a few past threada before and it looked like decisions started coming out the first week of March through the second week! I think they try to get all of the decisions out before the Fall application deadline which is March 15

Hey guys! I went to the BSN informational yesterday and as far as taking online sciences courses, they said that the lecture portion can be taken online but the lab portion must be in person. So when you send your transcripts to the registers office, though you might see just a grade, they can actually tell if it's online or not.

I heard that too, but I honestly think they are just trying to deter students from taking them online, which I really think isn't fair becuase it is accredited just like the in portion lab. For my AP lab at HCC, we used NOTHING in the lab. My prof had us come to class, read out of a virtual lab manual, print out the labs and turn them in. They were all done without any equipment. Why is that more acceptable over a virtual lab? I looked at transcripts from other courses I took online (not labs) and there is nothing that distinguishes an online versus in class lab. I've also seen in other forums people who were accepted who took labs online.

Let me ask ya'll this: what are your thoughts on an online lab? Do you personally think it's any less credible? The online Chem class i looked at required an at home lab kit, so you are still doing the experiments done in class, just at your home instead, so to me that's just as credible. Just interested to hear ya'lls thoughts!

Honestly when I took my A&P 1 and 2 I can't even say that we had a true lab day. We were told to do pages in our lab manual for homework and bring it back the next day for a grade. That was our typical "lab".

I mean i totally get where admissions is coming from, when you hear "online lab" it sounds so taboo, i just really thought if it was accredited then they would accept it. When i signed up for AP2 online, I checked UTs website to see if they accept online classes, and it said yes as long as the institution is accredited. I wish it would clearly state somewhere online that they don't allow online labs, similar to how they clearly state that you cant test out of any of the science prereqs.. Because now I'm going to have to retake the lab portion which means more time and money but here's to hoping and praying the time/money spent will be worth it!!

Hi what were your stats? Like gpa & hesi scores

Hi! I just got into the UTH Pacesetter program for Spring 2019, so I figured I can answer this question. You do not need to take the Critical Thinking portion. You might want to check if other schools you are applying to require it though. I originally had taken the HESI for UTH without Critical Thinking, then later on decided to apply to another program that required Critical Thinking. I ended up being able to take that separately for the other school.

Good luck!

Hello all,

I am applying for the summer start as well. I have not taken my HESI I am scheduled to take it Jan 11, 2019 I am currently retaking SOC and GOVT to raise my GPA for Pre-Reqs. So a lady from UT nursing came to my school for out health major internship/job fair and said they look at your pre req GPA and also look at all of the classes you have taken outside of nursing (that is how I assume they narrow it down). I am not sure how accurate it is, but that is what she said. She also said competitive overall is a 3.5, science 3.4, and hesi mid 80's. Mind you that is competitive so they will still accept lower if they see fit.

My current stats

Overall Pre-req GPA: 3.12

Overall projected after mini: 3.33

Science: 3.58 (this does not include micro lect/lab)

HESI: Pending

I get so confused about what GPAs they consider for "overall". I've heard when they say "overall" they're refering to the 60 hours that goes towards the degree. Others have said they're looking at every single class, but when I got my initial transcript eval after I applied, it had remarks next to pretty much all of my business courses saying they didn't fufill any of the nursing prereq requirements, and I didn't see them calculated in the GPA given. I may try to attend the next info session to see if I can get a clear answer. To me it makes sense if "overall" meant the 60 hours being applied to your BSN, not randon filler classes but I could be wrong.

I heard that admissions reads these comments, be careful what you say :) I'm going to retake a lab this spring just to be safe..

No that is what the overall means, but if you have 5 spots and 10 people have the exact same hesi and GPA how do you decide who to admit and not ? That's where I would see them looking at your previous courses your previous experience. To clarify though, overall does just mean the 60 hours.
