Hi, everyone. I am planning on applying to the ae-msn program this fall. I've read through all the ae-msn posts from '08 to 2016. I didn't see a thread for this year's application, so I'm starting one. Feel free to post questions and comments! :)
Someone said this in the 2015 thread:
"I emailed Tracy, the graduate coordinator, asking about when decisions were going to be made and she said that 70% of applicants will be asked for an interview that will take place between late November through January. Decisions will be made at the end of January through March."
So it seems they do interviews until January.
Hi Guys!
Just wanted to drop in and help perhaps calm some nerves. I'm a current AE student in the 2016 cohort, so I completely empathize with your anxiety, because I absolutely had it last year!
For those waiting to hear about interviews, I was told by one of the professors conducting a selection of them that apparently there was a miscommunication from somewhere higher up the chain, and some of the interviewers weren't told they had to start conducting interviews until basically earlier this week. So take heart! It'll all shuffle itself out soon.
Good luck, everyone!
So now having completed Summer and being at the finish line of Fall semester, I've really enjoyed it. I've learned a LOT in a short amount of time, and can honestly say that the professors here really do have your best interest in mind and want to help you succeed.
Here are some of my tips / words of wisdom for the program as a whole:
- Orientation is going to be HELLA overwhelming because they will talk you through what essentially the whole semester/ year will be like right up front. Try to take it in stride and focus more on what you need to do in the present.
- Try and figure out a schedule / calendar system that best works for you to make sure you stay on top of assignments and quizzes. As someone in an earlier cohort told me, "The work itself isn't complicated, there is just a lot of it." so time management really is a HUGE thing in the first year.
- Form study groups! Having people in the program to help understand the material who have different backgrounds from yours is incredibly helpful.
- The School of Nursing does not have a +/- system for grades, so don't drive yourself crazy trying to get a 99% in every class, because you will have the same exact grade as the person who gave themselves a break to make themselves dinner and watch TV and got a 90%.
Overall, just remember that this program (particularly the first year) is a marathon, not a sprint. Take the time during summer to establish healthy habits like mandated bedtimes, hobbies, and the like so that when you get into the rest of the year, you aren't trying to juggle establishing that while also preparing for being in the hospital. As one of the nurses at Seton wisely told me, "Make sure when you're done with your day you get out of here and do something fun", and whether that fun thing is, like catching up on a TV show, going to the gym, taking a nap, whatever - make sure you do it!
Hope this was helpful! Feel free to ask more questions as you think of them :)

Hi Everyone,
Has anyone received a rejection? I'm only asking because I applied to Leads and my app is "still under review". I received the background check email and nothing since so I'm assuming I am not in the running. anybody in the same boat?
