USS Kearsage...Help Please

Published

I'll try and make this as short as possible...ANY info would be GREATLY appreciated.

My girlfriend and I are both Canadian Forces Reg force nurses. She had the incredible opportunity to go on the USS Kearsage to Nicaragua and Columbia this summer...doing humanitarian work etc. We had planned to meet in Columbia for a week of leave at the end of her tour. Now with the hurricaines there is talk of the Kearsage possibly going to Haiti to help out which totally ruins our plans and leaves me in the hole for airline tickets from Vancouver to Columbia and return (The Canadians will be returning home from Columbia early, not going on to Haiti). I'm thinking of going to Miami instead, as my first airline ticket terminates there. We can still have a great vacation in a warm climate.

The question...I've heard Homestead Airforce base has visitors quarters. I'm looking for prices, phone numbers, emails, availability...anything anyone might have. Also, any info on what to do (on a budget) in Miami.

Thanks folks...

Not 100%, but you might try to cross post this on the Florida forum for better feedback, especially regarding the present weather situation. I would say FL may not be the bright and cheerful place you are expecting right now. My brother and his GF are busy buying up water, gas, and putting on their hurricane shutters as I type this. Having said all that, South Beach is not bad for a day (Think mardis gras without any old school class, and more skin). Actually, I would go to the Keys if it where not for the horrible weather you might face.

Thanks Woknblues....I'll do that. The trip isn't planned until the 16th so hopefully the storms will have passed by then...keeping my fingers crossed.
