USF Tampa Accelerated BSN Spring 2019

Published

Hi All! I can't find a thread for the USF Accelerated BSN program for Spring 2019, so I figured I would create it here. Years ago, I applied to both USF and UF Upper Division Nursing Programs and got rejected to both. I've since received a Bachelor's Degree in English with a 3.95 cumulative GPA. I don't have a single C on my entire transcript but I have a lot of B's in the pre-reqs that USF focused on (I started college right after high school and had a HORRIBLE science/math background, so it's amazing for me to have received those grades). My question is, would it be a total waste of time for me to reapply to USF as a second degree seeking student for the Nursing Program there? If USF is still looking at the same 4 classes to calculate pre req GPA (Microbio lecture, Stats, A/P 1 & 2 lecture), then my pre-req GPA is looking like a 3.25. If They are looking at ALL the pre reqs, then my pre-req GPA would be a 3.64. I just called the USF College of Nursing and the lady on the phone told me they look at ALL pre-requisites to determine the pre-requisite GPA, but when I looked at last year's students on this website (for last year's admitted class), and the experience I had myself when I applied in 2012, it doesn't line up. I just want to know if I would be wasting my time applying. I'm seriously considering going to Rasmussen in Tampa and getting my ADN and then bridging over for the BSN at USF (they accept Rasmussen grads, I called and checked). Does anyone know how USF's CON currently calculates their pre-requisite GPAs? Are lower pre req GPAs (like 3.25--if they're only looking at 4 classes without the labs) ever accepted into USF's CON if the person has a really high cumulative GPA (mine is 3.95), and could I have a shot?

Congrats! Yes it's an exciting opportunity! I got accepted to start in the Spring and have been looking at housing. It's a lot harder to find a good spot starting January.

Heyy , have you tried on 50 ? they have great student housing. Or The Ivy ?

I looked at IQ right in front of the nursing building, as well as the flats, venue, and another two I wasn't a big fan of. Since I don't have anyone to live I was looking at solo places. But it's tough. Do you already live in the area?

i dont live in the area , i was considering moving into studet housing close by. I live in riverview. im debating on moving

To anyone who got accepted to the summer start:

Did your email through SOAR say "...the Admissions Committee is pleased to recommend you for the Summer 2019 Accelerated Second Bachelor's Degree program at the USF College of Nursing. Congratulations!" ? The word "recommend" really confused me, like- why doesn't it just say "congratulations you've been accepted" ??? Anyone else get a letter like this- just trying to make sure I actually got in

I have not considered student housing. I need to look into it. I want a solo place unless I can find someone from the nursing program to live with because that would be super convenient given the circumstances.

I want to do solo as well but idk how I would pay rent lol di talked to advisor and she stated working is not possible in the program

Yeah the solos I've looked at are very limited and hard to find first of and secondly started at 1000 a month. What is it that you were looking to spend a month? yeah unfortunately since its an accelerated program there is no room for working. How far are you from campus at the moment?

im about 40 minutes away right now , I know Parl avenue across the street is about 760 a month for a 1 bedroom. and The Park At Valenza Which Is 10 mins away is 800 a month. I Like where i live now its just really far.

Nice. I need to find another day to go and check out more places. I'm two hours away. And yeah 40 is not horrible but the drives adds up when it's every day. What zip code did you provide for the clinicals? Are you new to USF? are you also having to do the express orientation on the same day as the nursing orientation?

Woah 2 hours is really far , yeah keep trying to find something closer. i oit zipcode 33579 , i want to do tgh though. i got my first degree at usf so im familiar with the campus. i dont think i have to do express since im a returning student. ill double check on that though.
