USF MSN CNL non nurse spring 2019

Hey everyone, I was looking for a blog and didn't see one for the next cohort at USF and decided to create one. I think it would be really helpful to be in touch with other students applying. Let's discuss and stay in touch through this process =)

Hello everyone,

Best wishes to all of you! I am applying to USF - SF location. I'm extremely nervous but excited at the same time. I'm still working on my application I only have a few more days til the deadline.

Can you share how you are setting up your healthcare resume? For instance, what are your Sections?

I have Professional Summary; followed by, Professional Experience, Volunteer Exp., Education and Awards. Is this somewhat how yours is setup? thanks!

Hi rroxoxobr,

For my resume I broke it down into Education, Honors, Skills, Work experience and Volunteer experience, so I would say ours is fairly similar.

Hello everyone!

I'm surprised there aren't more people commenting since the deadline is coming up fairly soon. I'm applying for the SF location.

I was so frustrated with editing, and revising and re-editing my personal statement... just everything about the whole process, I ended up submitting my application last month.

I read on a previous thread that rejections may be received within 4-6 weeks after deadline.

Can anyone confirm this?

@Lotionpump Is there a specific order you think is best? I am still trying to figure out how I want to format mine. I am applying to the OC campus and the deadline is Sept 15. I am awaiting a potential new job to add to my resume, then I will submit my application.

I am also very surprised that few people are on this thread. Reading previous ones, there seems to have been more people commenting.... Maybe fewer people are applying this cycle??? I am also applying to CSULB and there aren't many people on that thread as well. I think Spring programs are a little less competitive. I believe acceptance/denials are sent about 10 weeks after each deadline. I have not come across anything much sooner than that, so I would expect sometime in November.

Oh nice, I really hope you get the job!

I was always taught to in school, when making resumes, do education first and then professional experiences and volunteer experience. But honestly, I wouldn't stress too hard about the order of the resume, I think their main focus is on LORs and the personal statement.

Can I submit my application before the letter of recommendations are complete? I have received one confirmation email for one recommender, I am just waiting for my second recommender to complete their part.

I have my Personal Statement and Resume complete. I can submit my application pending the letter. I feel kind of nervous to submit it though, I feel like I want to make more edits, but I don't know what kind lol

@rroxoxobr I think you can submit your application before your letters are complete, just make sure you have both your recommenders listed in the application. Pretty sure, I submitted mine before the LORs were done, but don't quote me on that, my memory is terrible.

I totally feel you! I was really nervous about submitting it and I'm super anxious about finding out the results. I've been looking up stuff on nursing forums just to see when they usually release admittance and rejections, I've even been on the look out for trends in GPA/experience/volunteerwork. It looks like they send out acceptance/denials mid November.

You've probably already done this for your personal statement but just in case, make sure you double check simple things like grammar, capitalizations...etc. Maybe if you need to reword some things, use a thesaurus and replace simple words when necessary with fancy words so you sound well read (be sure to use in correct context). Read your personal statement aloud and have your peers or mentors edit for you as well. Make sure that you answer all questions of the prompt in a way that ties your statement, your goals, achievements, volunteer experience, all of that together in a cohesive manner.

What about your personal statement makes you nervous?

I'll try my best to help, if I can!

Thank you for all the tips! I have had it proof-read by multiple people. I am more concerned about my resume and I feel like I am in a bind. I just got accepted into St Jospeh's Hospital volunteer program in the Labor and Delivery department, which is my dream department. BUT I am also being considered for a Medical Insurance Processing position, which I could benefit from.... but I'm not sure what to take bc the volunteer position is in high demand and I don't think I would be able to switch my set day.

I am already volunteering in a Clinic and I have 100 hours of hospital volunteering from 2013. I do have a job already, but the pay is not as competitive as this new position would be. I don't know what to do lol Its between one or the other on my resume.

Hello all!

I am also applying for the USF OC site spring 2019. Does anyone know if the deadline is for August 31 at midnight (tonight) or September 1 at midnight? I ended up deciding very last minute to switch one of my LORs and I want to know how much time I have to get the request in for the other one.

Best of luck to you all!
