USF BSN-DNP, Fall 2020

Published

Hello!

This forum is for people who applied to the University of South Florida (USF) BSN-DNP, family health concentration. Other concentrations are welcome as well, just mention in your response which one you chose.

I applied back in September, but my NursingCAS application became "verified" as of today. I believe decisions are going to start on a rolling basis in December.

Best of luck to everyone!

I recently had an interview for the pediatric BSN to DNP program. Patiently waiting to see if I get the acceptance email.

I got accepted!

Hello! I wanted to ask if any of you could answer my question. I recently got into the Fall 2021 DNP-FNP part time program. I wanted to know how often do you actually have to attend campus? I live an hour away. Also I noticed in the student handbook it said we’re required to have our national certification before beginning DNP coursework but how are we supposed to have the time to study for that? I thought we don’t take that until after gradation. Just like you don’t take the NCLEX till after nursing school.

Congrats on your acceptance!!
The past couple of semesters everything has been online, so we've rarely had to be on campus. However, they're switching over to live courses beginning in the fall, which courses will be live will depend on the instructors. You can check the course schedule in Oasis to see which ones will be in-person.
The program is set so you complete all the Masters coursework before beginning the Doctoral program, which allows you to sit for the board exam before beginning the DNP program. It's a pretty intense program, but everyone is so willing to help. I've had nothing but a great experience, so far. As far as having time, you learn to create it somehow, and fit things in.

Hope that's somewhat helpful! Congrats again!

Hi all! I am about to start an ABSN program and plan to apply here once I am an RN. I was wondering if you guys have any tips/advice to get into the program and how much experience you guys had as an RN. I would really appreciate it

I applied to the program halfway through my ABSN. I did not have my RN prior to applying. I graduated Aug 7th and started on August 25th, took my NCLEX on Aug 27th. I don’t recommend doing this, it was extremely stressful. I had no experience as an RN when I applied. I did not have to interview and was directly accepted. As far as tips, make yourself and your intentions known to faculty, attend any DNP info sessions and ask good questions, and get at least a 3.5 GPA. Have you considered the MSN? I am leaving the DNP because, honestly, I don’t feel I need a doctorate since I want to be in practice and don’t want to teach at the graduate level.

That’s if you just do the DNP. If you do the BSN-DNP that requirement is waived.

I have considered the MSN but by 2025 all NP will be required to have a doctorate degree so that is why I would want to apply to that particular program. So does that mean they will accept you before you even become an RN if you are planning on taking the NCLEX soon? Would you recommend this program over others?

They have been saying all NPs will be required to have a doctorate for about a decade now. I truly don’t think they will force any NPs to get a doctorate. Just like the CRNAs are now all doctoral level, all the working CRNAs were grandfathered in.

And yes, they will accept you conditionally (the condition being successful completion of your BSN and passing your NCLEX).

I don’t NOT recommend this program, but I also don’t think it’s better than any other.
