This thread is super early but I want to create a spot for USAGPAN 2021 applicants to share our journey! I’m mostly posting this thread now to spread the word about Iowa Central Community College’s Intro to Organic and Biochem online course - CHM 130. This option was a lifesaver (read: time and money saver) for me and I have to pay it forward. I checked with the Baylor liaison and the course fulfills the chemistry requirement. The only prerequisite is Intro to Chemistry I. I hope this helps someone and I’m looking forward to the upcoming application year!

lindswolf, I emailed to the program coordinator, here what she replied "There is NO age limit for VA applicants : )
Typically the biggest hurdle for VA applicants is having a competitive GRE score: 300 Combined (verbal + quantitative) or higher (to be competitive, scores lower than this are not competitive) and 3.5 Writing REQUIRED (a score below 3.5 makes one ineligible for admission)."
Interesting, why did she specify that this is "the biggest hurdle for VA".
@freewired Regarding ICCC’s course- there are weekly deadlines and the course is set up so students have to engage on the discussion boards at least 4 days/week for full credit. I don’t have any previous o-chem or biochem experience to compare the course to but studying is definitely required to be successful on the exams. I like how the content was blended with organic and biochem plus the focus on how it relates to the human body.
There are 4 proctored exams, no quizzes, 8 discussions spread over 4 days every week, and the amount of homework on the Sapling platform varies each week. It ranges from approximately 40-75 questions- there is quite a bit of drawing compounds. I hope this helps!
@Bonnie Bailey Thank you for your response! How much time did you commit to it each week? How did you do in the course? I'm planning to take statistics in conjunction with Intro to Orgo/Biochem. Do you have a sample of the syllabus?

I took this class while working full time and a PRN job at a shift/two a week. Very doable...time management is key with it (what's that right?).....this course COULD be very hard or very DOABLE IMO.....FWIW no regrets taking it here and online. Cheers!
Bonnie,
I am so excited that someone started this thread. I know one was started last year but there wasn't a whole lot of replies. I too applied last year and my GRE and incomplete Biochemistry course left me to withdraw my application for 2020. I, however, have pushed forward and will definitely be applying again for the 2021 class. For those of you who have been to MEPS and have passed the height/weight requirement, do you have any advice on how to go about completing this? In other words, does all of your paperwork with the army have to be complete before going to an interview and MEPS?
Also, did anyone have any problems completing paperwork required for the Army side of the application?
Thanks you everyone else who has participated in this forum and has contributed so much knowledge and their experiences. Truly appreciated!!

Hi there and congrats on your journey into CRNA school / USAGPAN!! To answer your question I went to MEPS in San Antonio, TX back in December and yes you will have most of your paperwork filled out/completed before going to do this. You will become very familiar with your recruiter with the "back and fourth documents that are required to be sent to him/her"......No problems completing the Army's paperwork just time consuming.....you got this!! Did you take the GRE? Cheers -Tony

I took UNE Biochemistry and just finished at the end of August 2019. It was a great class and had a wonderful instructor. You have 4 tests plus a midterm and final. The 4 tests can be taken at home on the honor system but the midterm and final are proctored tests. In addition, there is a weekly quiz and 4 papers/projects to complete. The papers/projects are based on the material that you have learned and the instructor will provide a lot of feedback. It is a graduate level course so the high expectations to do well is definitely a must. If I had to take it again, I definitely would. I thought it was much more interesting than General or Organic Chemistry. The course is 16 weeks long but you can opt to finish the course sooner than that. You have the option to complete everything in one week if that is what you wanted to do. LOL! A self-paced course as long as everything is complete before the deadline at the end of the semester.

Hi Tony! Yes, I complete my GRE but my score was a 298 with a 4.0 in writing. I plan to take my GRE again at end of February. A few questions if you don't mind?
1. Can you submit paperwork before you complete height/weight requirement?
2. How soon can you do the Phase 1 interview?
3. Will we be required to complete "new" ARMY fitness test before coming onboard with the program?
Thanks,
Beth
