USAGPAN 2017

Published

Hey everybody! I'm getting ready to apply to USAGPAN for the 2017 start date, and I just wanted to start a thread to connect with others who are applying. I'm sure that I wont receive many responses until closer to the application deadline, but I wanted to use this thread as a means of tracking my progress throughout the application process as well.

This program is my #1 choice, but I am requesting that MEPS grant a medical waiver (I had a football-related injury 10 years ago, but my recruiter said I should be good to go since waivers are much easier for medical personnel to obtain), and I still need to take the GRE, so there is some uncertainty there. I recently began studying for the GRE, and have been doing okay on the practice tests. However, I keep putting the exam off because I didn't apply myself in high school and focused pretty much on sports and good times. I'm currently reteaching myself high school math (ha)! I'm rocking the verbal portion though, so I plan on taking it next month.

I will be applying to a couple of back-up schools as well, but the military is something I've always wanted to do, and I'm not getting any younger (I'm in my late twenties). I actually almost joined the marines after high school, but ended up opting for college instead. The thought of getting paid to fulfill both life and career goals without having to pay tuition is enticing. I think that for me personally, the stress of having $0 in loans from CRNA school, serving my country, not having to worry about living expenses while matriculating, and the top notch education(DNP) I would receive far outweigh, "making 150k/year in the private sector." ..and hey...I wouldn't mind getting some cool trauma experience overseas from a tour or two!

Has anyone received acceptance into the USAGPAN 2017 class yet?

As of last week the LTC at USAGPAN told me no. Only active duty has been accepted at this point.

Do you know when direct accession civilians should hear back? I know there is a later due date for the direct accession civilian applications but we should hear back before the December due date right?

Last board is in November to get boarded. School apps they are taking till December though.

Hey bman2019, I enlisted as a military police officer in the Reserves in 2005 and completed ROTC to become an RN in 2013. Civilian side, I began working in an ER initially and have been in an SICU since March 2015. In the Reserves, I am currently a company XO for a training unit. Just got my conditional release packet signed and can now schedule the visit/interview.

Who has gone on the phase II interview ?

I'm hoping I will be good as far as admission criteria. GRE 323 and 3.5 writing, around 3.8 for BSN, and I've taken a number of certifications like PALS, TNCC, CCRN-CSC-CMC. I was considering taking the online biochem class, but my organic chem was 8 yrs ago and the biochem class says that it requires prerequisites within 7 yrs. I don't think I can PM yet because I haven't posted enough, but I do have one question. Do you know if you maintain your time in grade when commissioning into active duty from reserves because I have heard from somewhere that it resets?

have you talked with the program staff here in Texas yet? the o-chem question is a good one to ask them to see if they will accept it so you don't have to take biochem (although it's a really good idea to get refreshed on biochem). I came from the enlisted side in the guard so i'm not sure how they handle the time in grade coming active as a reserve officer. You should keep your years of service, I kept all my years. This is more of a recruiter specific question though but i can ask some classmates too.

Hey gang, I just MEPs'd, and applied to NEU. Waiting on my Rec's to be completed for that app then that's done. I'm hoping to get an idea of when my phase II interview will be since I'll be out of town 2 times over the next 2 months due to weddings and such. Hope all is well with everyone and good luck getting boarded!

Progressive, whaaaaat? That's bogus man, hate to hear it.

I know right? He and I were going to be USAGPAN buddies if we both got in. But I think he's doing better than I currently. After all, a bird in the hand... ;)
