Hello

I am an American student starting school at sydney uni this fall. After I finish I hope to eventually go back to the US to practice. Any advice?? Also any advice on accommodation and a part time job?

Thank you!

Specializes in Med/Surg, DSU, Ortho, Onc, Psych.

www.gumtree.com.au 4 accommodation & jobs.

www.realestate.com.au 4 accommodation.

www.careerone.com.au 4 most jobs, but the local paper wherever u go will have heaps of jobs (I'm not in Sydney so dunno the paper they sell there but u can try googling).

Once u become a 2nd or 3rd year student RN, you can find work in many hospitals etc as an Assistant in Nursing (AIN). All the hospitals advertise & take them on. It is also good training as a future RN.

Good luck.

You most likely be lacking in midwifery and childrens nursing for most states in the US of A to register over there, as our nursing degrees are general, midwives do the labour wards,...no RN's allowed not even RN students as there are now straight direct entry midwifery degrees.

Goodluck, sorry for the sad news but there is no way out....our degrees however seem to pass usually the mental health practise requirements.

You would be best to contact the BON of the state over there on which you would like to practise and ask them their requirements and compare your course in sydney.

btw, you can only work 20 hours while school is on, in a week...unlimited on holidays.

Also ask around hospitals you would like to work.

American nurses returning home have stated on allnurses that the experience they acquired over in Australia has not been accepted as nursing experience on their return back to the states and have been considered new grads, even though they have had two to three years of experience overseas.
