US RN to Australia using Profco

Hello All-

I am a RN who is currently working with "Profco" to travel to Australia. I had a phone interview this morning and the company seemed legit and secure. I was wondering if anyone has used this company before and what your thoughts on it were? They state that they differ from other agencies as they do not cover lodging, expense money, etc. Basically they help you get your visa and get set up with a hospital. I was informed you only need 18 mths experience and that hiring new grads was not an issue. They are seeking mostly Mental Health nurses and the salary was pretty nice. I was also wondering what the cost of living there was like? I was informed I would probably be offered a job at the New South Wales Hospital and wondered if anyone has had any experience there and what it is like? Any advice is appreciated =)

Please be aware there is no such hospital as The new south wales hospital. NSW is a state of Australia capital is Sydney with many large hospitals none go by the name of new south wales hospital.

Also you must have nursing registration with our nurses board that you have not mentioned.

Being a new graduate with little experience does not stop you getting after some tine it is not a quick process, nurses registration, but work is drying up.

Many of our large public hospitals will only employ nurses with a specialty or loads of general experience. Agencies are supposed to only have nurses with a couple of years experience.

Just lilt the U s of A. Locals are now finding it more difficult to get work.

I would ring this agency up and ask about nursing registration and which hospital is it exactly.

Are you mental health specialty trained?

Hi. here's a bit of info that you might find useful;

http://www.health.nsw.gov.au/resources/jobs/conditions/awards/nurses_pdf.asp

p87 is the pay scale but that is for public health service. You probably need to find out if you will be working in private or public first, and which hospital as Ceridwyn said. Private hospitals usually pay a little less than public hospitals.
