I've a Bachelors in Nursing from an American university. I'd like to move back to UK. My passion in nursing in psychiatric/mental health, and I've worked in that field for a long time. However, from what I understand, I would not be able to register with the Nurse Midwife Council and then work as a psych nurse. Does anyone know of top-up courses, or how I would go about being registered as a UK psychiatric nurse? I'd hate to have to start at the beginning and do a whole new nursing degree. Thanks for any help!

Things have changed recently with the NMC and applicants that trained outside of the EU. Have you checked to what the requirements are?

I would call them up directly and ask and be sure to get past the first person on the phone line because they are only useful to know basic things off the website. They don't know know intricacies for things like your situation.
Do you have a lot of experience in psych? Is there a nursing certification for psych that you have? You can do a 1 year post degree in the UK for psych (nurses in the UK with an adult degree can do a one year post course doing this, for example), although getting admitted might be challenging and expensive.
Let us know how things go if you call them...would be good for anyone else in the future in your shoes.
